If you strip out London from the UK in terms of GDP this country would be poorer than Cuba!

Are they keeping the St. Andrews cross? I thought a portion of Scottish people didn't like that flag.

Na, they know we'd screw them with import and export duties on goods since they dont actually produce anything other than pretend money on some computers......that state wouldn't last more than two generations...

Works for Luxembourg. And the Swiss only make chocolate and clocks that no-one buys.

London does also seem to produce very expensive sandwiches.

Sandwiches lose their value when exported.

Dunno, Salmond waves the Saltire every chance he gets....

See they're even doing some yes pop concert like live aid, with the likes of Amy MacDonald and the Proclaimers.....that says exactly where the Yes camps strategy lies.....all emotion and symbolism

I truly dread the time a similar referendum happens over here. It'll sicken me to my stomach that such a decision will be withered down to ****wits on either side waving their colours furiously and pointing to a revisionist history lending more to myth than fact. And worse....theyve been training acceptance of this crap on both sides for generations..... astounds me how intelligent people become dumb as **** as soon as you wave a flag.

So if the Union Jack has to change in design then Australia, New Zealand and all the other Commonwealth nations that use the Union Jack within their own flags have to change as well! <laugh> They must send the bills to Salmond! <ok>

Only because we buy into it. If those financial centres became countries, all those outside of them would eventually realise, we have all the goods and food. Do we really need another country to add it all up for us and record the exchanges? We can count, we make the computers! I know we could do it ourselves. (Simplified obviously lol)

The trick to the current system is in believing those service centres are an integral part of the rest of us not separate from the rest......

But everyone does believe it and it does make lots of money and those small nations based around financial institutions are incredibly rich :p

Frank, London and it's inhabitants have no real idea that the place has little or no intrinsic value whatsoever. Take away the government and it's administration and just watch the financial/ legal and commercial organisation re-locate at the speed of sound leaving behind the biggest property crash the world has ever seen

Largest and most diverse labour pool in the country and quite possibly Europe, base for countless large companies and due to population density an incredibly wealthy tertiary sector.

Of course if you start to strip down a city, remove key elements, it will become less popular and in turn house prices will fall.

Luckily in reality London isn't about to stop being the capital, the government aren't about to up sticks and there is no threat of a huge looming property crash.

Exactly, we only believe it reluctantly I might add because we've bought into London as the capital of our country (using England here as example)

If London became a state the rest of the country would immediately be poorer due to a focus of those service industries but in effect we would own the existing countries resources and have infrastructure in its remaining largest cities to replicate the functions and services of London.

We would also now have a government not londoncentric in its policy making.

So we could charge what we liked for selling the things to the country of London it needed to survive while building direct competition in its few industries. Yes they could go elsewhere for those goods but the vast majority would have to pass across our lands...

You'd either pay through the nose and face a exodus or starve lol....

I hope not. If Scotland isn't part of the union they shouldn't be on our flag!

This is my suggestion for Union Flag 3.0:

(If N. Ireland gets their skinny saltire included- then Wales should be included)

Just replace the blue with the green and you may even have a flag that we could convince the SF to fly over here....(just don't tell them it's the Welsh bit)

I tell you one thing. It's going to really **** up parade season over here if it changes....red white and blue is an industry of its own lol......
