OH COME ON it was not that bad, bearing in mind the team and its age. Would have liked to have seen lambert earlier though..Delph is a bit dodgy... NEEDS TO CALM DOWN... Welbeck well what can you say a real steal.... Rooney first time as a real captain in a real game .. thought he was quite composed, although would like to see less of him in defence at corners.. 0-2 fair to good... How about Portugal....
I'm yet to see a thread about England on here where the same lot don't moan about the national team. Anyway...here's some moaning. While I think the tactics were right today, we're continuously falling down the same hole that we've fell down for decades now. England don't have their own style of play, nor do we want to buy into a philosophy of playing like nearly every other country in the world has done, so we continuously swap our tactics around to make use of the players at our disposal right now. The Diamond 4-4-2 worked well with our top-heavy team, and keeps enough at the back to ensure that we're not leaving a lot of room at the back, but it will fold the second we play real opposition or the second we swap any of the players around. I think a lot of England fans would appreciate the national team being **** if they were trying to play towards a greater good and trying to get players for the national team that fit into the way the fans want the national team to play. What we get right now is managers that after many years still don't know their best system.
Got the result which is what matters. There are several games we can experiment on starting against San Marino to play attractive football.
I totally forgot England was playing last night I am getting more and more uninterested in the national team.
gd now is not the time to experiment, when we have 15 points in the bag then is the time, we need to get a lot of goals under our belt give the team something to feast from...
Wilshere needs to give up cigarettes. Can't believe how slow he looks. Delph needs to settle down, but looks to have the ability and that yard of pace. The defence looked like ours, dodgy. Difference - England have a keeper.
I though it was a pretty decent game TBH. A win away to a decent Swiss side and that's the most difficult fixture. We've all but qualified already one game in.
I am not aware that I always moan about England, but then why not? They are the most expensive team of 'anything' ever assembled, so given their wages and privileges I expect them to win every trophy out there - unless heaven forbid, maybe they are a tad overpaid?
I was surprised to hear than in his 2 years in charge that Hodgson has used 59 players!- Against San marino, I could play and it shouldn't affect the result- Personally, I would play 4 goal hungry forwards up front, an attack minded midfield, and only a limited rearguard. Get a good goal difference. Last time we played them, they parked the bus and we took a while to score. Once we had, we went on to get 5. All respects to them, but I don't think we need to play cautious. In our 4 games against them we are in front 26-1. That 1 killed our qualification hopes as we needed about 9 anyway that night.
Personally, I'd use the entire game against San Marino as a training exercise. Play the formation we want to use going forward, but get England to retain as much possession as humanely possible. The score is almost irrelevant, and although we're expecting a rugby score I'd be happy to see them barely touch the ball.
Didn't San Marino score the fastest ever goal against England? I think it took them 7 seconds to breach our goal!
