It won't be decisive either way and it'll cause a huge rift in the Scottish population. And if it's a NO vote salmond can keep plugging away for as long as he wants but they won't get another independence referendum in his career span, probably his lifetime.
Can't they be proud to be British? What about those who are quite happy to British? Scousers are often proud to be Scouse. Should Liverpool be a seperate country? Should gay people have their own country? And sweeping possible effects on currency, jobs, pensions etc. under the carpet as "growing pains" seems a bit naive.
If Salmond wins the next Scottish Elections then he will surely have another fresh mandate to hold another referendum!
Salmond was on a win win though. Either independence or his position becomes more powerful with increase powers devolved as a bribe. He's laughing all the way to RBS......wait, maybe not....
Looks like we are agreeing but using differing bases. Life is full of inconsistancies and having to live with them for only 3 years is far from being too onerous!
Within Scotland maybe but a UK government that has to ratify it would never agree to one so soon.....and he's not likely to take up arms in a continuation of the struggle....maybe a pie.
Which is why outside a desperate SNP, nobodies changing it elsewhere lol....... Edit: did the Lib Dems toy with the idea?
If Liverpool was Scotland's size, then it would be Scotland... Scotland is large enough to be self sustainable in the long run. It's up to their strength of character however how much sacrifice they're willing to shoulder in the short term for the sake of their aspiration.
That makes sense given that we haven't had a referendum on Europe since 1975 so any one born after 1957 has had no say on EU Membership!
There are nations around the world that are smaller than Merseyside. Their are a couple of cities in Italy that have independence movements. Nationalism is a dangerous thing. Being a smaller country is not usually a good thing. In a large country when disaster hurts one area- the other areas can help out.
There is a strong argument for that. The population of London is so far from being representative of the population of the UK or even England that it may as well be stripped of its title as capital and become a separate state
Self Sustainable? Large area that covers. A subsistence farm can produce just enough for a roof over your head and food that you dont die. That's self sustainable too. All depends on the quality of life you are prepared to accept. The Scots for all the complaints us northerners in general have, have had compared to world averages a very good quality of life. Are they willing to lower that for the sake of a blue flag, some long dead poets, and two fingers to an English political party? Because none of the economic plans I've heard from the Yes camp sound remotely plausible and appear to be based on deliberately or through incompetence complete falsehoods...So a yes is currently a vote based on warm fuzzy feelings and nothing more. That's not to say Liv that once the decision taken in stupidity lands them in ****, the Scottish people dont have the expertise and less tangible qualities you make note of to dig themselves painfully out of it. Find out in ten days I suppose.
The population of capital cities across the world are often not representative of the population of there countries. And if it wanted to become a separate state it wouldn't be stripped of its capital status it'd proclaim it's independence you bitter northerner
