. . . Swans boss hails quality of latest signings (from the club site) Swans boss Garry Monk has hailed the positive effect the club’s latest summer signings have already made on the squad. Midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson and winger Jefferson Montero became the latest acquisitions this week as they took the number of new signings to six following on from the arrivals of Lukasz Fabianski, Bafetimbi Gomis, Marvin Emnes and Stephen Kingsley. They took part in training for the first time on Thursday, and Monk has already seen their quality rub off on the squad. “Gylfi was a player I wanted to bring in because of his quality, the goals he scores and the fact he has proven himself at this level. “In the few days we’ve had him we can see his quality already. The group has noticed that, and it’s had a positive effect. “And the same goes for Jefferson. He’s settled in very quickly, and I’ve seen a good reaction from him and the squad in training.” Sigurdsson arrived from Tottenham having already spent time on loan with the Swans prior to his switch to White Hart Lane. He scored seven goals in 18 games during a successful temporary stint at the Liberty during the club’s first Premier League campaign in 2011-12. And Monk was delighted to retain his services on a permanent basis. Siggy “Gylfi was an important signing for us. We have been tracking him all summer,” said Monk. “The quality he has will raise the quality of the squad. “He knows the club, the fans, the area and what is expected of him. “Gylfi is a great learner. He is quick to pick things up and that’s part of why I brought him in. “He can score goals, create chances and can play in a number of positions too. “Plus he’s a humble guy too and fits straight into the group, which is important. “When you’re looking to bring a player in those are the boxes you want him to tick. Gylfi ticks all those boxes. “He played a lot of games at Tottenham in the Premier League and Europe. “He’s easily a top-six club player - it’s great for us to have him here. We want him to achieve his ambitions, while he wants to help the club push on too. “He is coming to a club that suits him in terms of the football he wants to play and work. I think everyone at the club is looking forward to seeing him in a Swansea shirt again.” Montero Another new face in the squad is Montero, who started all three of Ecuador’s World Cup group games in Brazil. Montero, who has blistering pace, offers Monk options as he can play on either flank. And the Swans boss was delighted to capture the 24-year-old’s services. “We have watched Jefferson in depth and a lot of work went on behind the scenes to make the deal happen,” he added. “He has a lot of quality and with the attributes he has he adds another dimension to our game. “The ideal situation for me is that I have different types of players in the same position because in a game I may need to use a different approach. “Jefferson certainly offers us something different, and I’m really happy he is here.” While the Swans welcome two new faces, the club also says farewell to two members of last season’s squad. Keeper Michel Vorm and defender Ben Davies both left the Liberty this week to join fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. Vorm was an instant hit with the Swans as he went on to win three of the main trophies at the club’s awards night in his debut season in SA1. He played a key role in helping the club progress in the Premier League, while his performances at club level also earned him further international recognition with Holland. And for Neath-product Davies, it proved a remarkable rise as he went on to become a regular under former boss Michael Laudrup as he helped the club lift the Capital One Cup on top of winning his first caps for Wales. Monk thanked both players for their contributions to the club, adding: “Every club sees players move on and that’s what has happened here. “Unfortunately you lose some of your better players, but if you replace them with as-good or better players then that’s great. “Ben and Michel contributed a lot to this club. “Ben had an amazing journey here. He took his opportunity and did very well in the two years he was in the first team. “And Michel enjoyed fantastic success too. Like Ben, he has taken the opportunity he was given and helped push the club on. “We thank both players for their contribution to the club and we wish them well for the future.” Monk also confirmed that the club hasn’t finished yet in the transfer market. He added: “We are always looking for players – you have to as a club. You never know when something will crop up. “We have a bit more business to do, but that will be dictated on what happens in the next couple of weeks.”

Swansea City sign young striker James Demetriou By South Wales Evening Post | Posted: August 29, 2014 SWANSEA City have added highly-rated striker James Demetriou to their youth ranks. The out-of-contract 19-year-old was offered a new deal by Nottingham Forest, but opted to move to the Liberty instead. A Cyprus international, Demetriou has penned a two-year agreement and joins Kristian O’Leary’s under-21 side. “It’s great to be here,” he said. “It has taken a long time to get sorted but it feels good and I just want to get my head down now and focus on the season ahead. “Swansea are a Premier League club, they play a great brand of football and they are a team that gives young players an opportunity. “My short-term aim is get game time and try to score as many goals as I can, but long-term I want to break into the first-team here and impress the manager.”

Alex Bray has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament...correct me if I'm wrong but they used to be career ending injuries...and is out for 6 months. Poor kid.
