Not gel mate, more gain experience.
This easy qualifying group is heaven sent for England. Hodgson can play the youngsters throughout the campaign and let them continue to get experience and make mistakes etc.
This England team is nowhere near world class yet, but there are encouraging signs imo.
They are tailor made to hit teams on the break with real pace.
They looked far, far more threatening than the Swiss.

That's a phenomenal result to be fair. Away to Switzerland? Very tough fixture. Well done England.

Some good young players coming through. It'd be nice if expectations were kept realistic because that pressure doesn't help. Its been like a noose around the national team's neck for decades now. The tabloid media is partly to blame. Give these young lads a chance and allow them grow into it.

Hopefully they'll develop nicely RTID.

Meanwhile, the Irish FA have broken new ground by giving the first international football cap to a real life Leprechaun .

FIFA have confirmed his eligibility having passed the fit and proper little persons test.

He performed well on the night but disappeared after a heavy shower in the 69th minute, running down a rainbow.

Martin O'Neill said "The boy did well. He's got great little feet and can produce a bit of magic and he always has a trick or two up his sleeve"

Unfortunately the team bus was delayed in leaving for two hours as they couldn't fit his crock of gold in the cargo hold

On a little side note, here's our 'nearly' new striker Kolbeinn Sigþórsson scoring yesterday in Icelands 3-0 win over Turkey. Neat finish.

Excellent real quality finish that … took it early as the defender did little wrong

Get a grip you two
Look how 3 days has turned opinions
From a good performance England are now world beaters and Wellbeck is one the best strikers in the world
The papers are full of how United have made a blunder as 16m is cheap!
The Suisse are sharper than England and a better team currently and didn't deserve the Churchill type comments that they looked poor
They were in fact superior in parts of the pitch
The scoreline did not reflect that game IMO
A great counter attack no doubt and a late well taken goal with the Suisse chasing the game
It's exactly this fickle approach to football that is laughable
England won a game and deserved it just that does not make them any better or the Suisse any worse

The clue is in how the English culture reacts to the bollocks served up in the media . I see only brainwashing here and the general public are at times too dumb and blinkered to see it

Watch the game
Understand the game

Maybe it can be explained like this

Millions of brainwashed watch X factor each week and really believe that is where talent is now born to a point whereupon they even fight inside their minds to deny they even like it

Meanwhile open minded talent and creativity shines through

Example mercury nominated:

Conclusion don't just believe the hype that England can play football again

I understand the point your making and don't deny it exists but don't tar us all with the same brush. I know plenty of people that are still here that would agree with you. As for your opinion of the game, I don't agree with your view at all, but that's my opinion. What seems a little off key is your use of the brainwashing argument to validate you opinion of the match. To use your own words "The clue is in how the English culture reacts......" That imply there is only one kind of culture in this country and that is just plain wrong in any terms. There are many people that don't react the way you describe it, so for you to imply that is the only reaction is (and again to use your own description) " to blinkered to see it." Sadly I think you sometimes undermine some very good points because of you seem to take one thing and apply it to all things. That just isn't how thing work. Many paths to many places mate.

It leaves some brainwashed and others in limbo sitting on an imaginary fence not knowing which way to fall IMO.

Like i always say this is just one mad man's opinion.

The last match is a perfect example IMO

Before the match… doubt and slaggers reigned and that is part and parcel of our culture which i believe is a result of brainwashing. We were going to get thrashed because we couldn't beat Norway well enough

Post match: Wellbeck is god and United were daft to sell him. We could beat anyone

If that's not generally fickle then what is?

I respect England supporters like i respect any team supporters

What i have seen is a complete change of our supporters following a swift rise with money and fame in this brainwashing circus.

A game of football still remains a simple beauty to me … I love it, its inside me from birth .. thats in where my opinion comes from. A forum, this forum helps me comment on what is happening to the game. I am a very small particle that gets rubbed up the wrong way when I see and read people swapping and changing based on one result. Of course there many cultures in the UK and by that I include the many smart people who don't follow what football is becoming.

The sad thing IMO is that this culture thing can't be undone and spreads like poison to younger people. There are many paths to many places I agree but you can spin that as being lost

Paul, I suggest you watch the game again. Apart from twenty minutes in the second half England were in control and should have won by more.
I certainly haven't said that we are now world beaters and I haven't read that anywhere either.
We have potential and need to be patient.

You are wrong as you often are.

Overall, I'd say England were average and the Swiss disappointingly poor for a home side. No matter what performance England put on DT will always denigrate our national side, you can't have a constructive argument with him because he is totally blinkered in his Francophile beliefs.

We have the nucleus of a very strong young attacking side developing, sadly, we are not as blessed with dominating defenders which has often been our strength. At least Woy is giving the younger players a go and hopefully they'll develop a style suited to their talents but continually playing players out of their best position is not ideal as he is doing with Stones. With Barkley and Walcott to return we have some quality players who will mix it with the best and I'm optimistic we can improve if we are less cautious and go for it...

Switzerland looked better on the ball but England better on the break.

One thing struck me: apart from our players of Caribbean and African origin why don't we have any Turkish or Albanian players or indeed players of european extraction (Jagielka aside) like other countries? Albania beat Portugal in Portugal the other day, hope Cronaldo enjoyed it. Good documentary on Albania (subtitles): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-a_b68bnIrM

It's gone downhill since the days of Enver Hoxha though. Worst thing that ever happened to Albania was C.B. Fry turning down their kind offer to make him King. Ended up with King Zog instead......
