Then his career at Arsenal will be a short one. I like Danny and rate him BUT he's nearly 24 and his finishing hasn't improved since he was a teenager and is too erratic to be the main striker in a system like the one Wenger likes to play. I've always thought he'd be best used in a front two as his runs can tear defences apart leaving space for the fox in the box, although I believe Jeffers has retired.
Giroud is hardly the most prolific finisher in the world is he? But he's got himself like 40 goals in two seasons. Welbeck may not have shown himself to be the most deadly finisher so far in his career but that's no reason to write him off already. When given an opportunity you'd be surprised how well some take it.
Wellbeck is going to be a beast. I can honestly see this being a classic Wenger signing, He's quick, tall, strong, technical and still only 23. For me he still has a lot of things to learn about playing as a No.9 but all the potential is there. If Wenger can get Adebayor scoring 30 goals in a Season he will work wonders with Wellbeck.
Wishful thinking! Danny is still young and has time to progress unlike Rvp and Rooney who are past their best.
Fair enough. You Gooners who have been slating the lad since he started getting any kind of attention with United know better!
I haven't slated him in the past. I've never really rated him and said as much when we signed him. Doesn't mean we should write him off as a striker before he evens kicks a ball for us. Especially after getting a brace for England at CF today.
Welbeck will score plenty of goals if you play him as a striker. He is not the type of player to cut in from a wide position and take a shot from the corner of the box (you have others for this) but put him in the centre and he will score more than he misses.
Danny only had one real run as central strker at OT, six games, six goals and we weren`t playing very well at the time.
2nd choice for Arsenal instead of 3rd choice for us, Personally good luck to him and hope he does get to be 1st choice at Arsenal though.
By mid season he will be first choice for Arsenal. He would never have left OT if he had been given a proper chance, but over all the years we have had him there have always been at least two "big name" strikers ahead of him leaving him either on the bench or out wide.
He's scored a brace for England before! I can assure you that I've been a lot more supportive of Welbeck over the years than any of you so forgive me if I consider your new found faith in the lad to be little more than blind optimism and pig ignorant club bias.
Searching your own posts from ages ago doesn't work properly I've said some nice things about him in the past
Well if you could read you'd see it isn't. I don't rate Welbeck particularly but I support arsenal and I never write a player off before they get a chance to show what they can do in an arsenal shirt. And my point wasn't that him scoring a brace means he is epic, I was just pointing out that we have brought him to play as a CF and in the game prior to playing for us for the first time he has scored two goals as a CF.
Currently he will be competing with Sanogo for the starting spot so he is likely to get a good run of games by mid way through the season when Giroud returns. So he has a very good opportunity to stake his claim to the starting striker role at Arsenal
