just wondered if anyone else out in Swansland would consider themselves a philanthropist in any way, small or large?
Done 100, 000 Canadian dollars free roofing , over 40 years work , sometimes suppling food for helpers cause the people who got the roof had nothing . Many a good night sleep .Two fosters kids that I hope , when things pick up for them, might send me a few dollars lol . Just got a 2nd one from Guatemala. Im a low end "Giver ", but I make my bucks count .
that is no low end giver breezy, and to you dragonborn, just wanted to see if anyone else donated to charities in anyway, no big deal, just if one did donate to what charitys etc on a regular basis
Donated thousands of pounds to the swans..I have stopped now they have enough I support various charities now and my money is better spent..
I don't have the cash to give away so I do distributed computing instead. Research that I have contributed towards includes medical research, clean energy, space propulsion and technology (more specifically efficient water desalination technology). Had my own preferences as well such as computing research for SETI and SDSS.
Your time in most cases means as much , if not more ,than money..People in dire need just want to know they are not alone in their problems and someone actually cares . I cant pass a broken down vehicle , I actually enjoy stopping and do what it takes to get them going or get them home . Moving people is my specialty , especially people with little money kicked out by pieces of **** "Slum lords .Had to keep a slum lord in a bedroom with his phone in my hand as my friends moved a single mom out with the slum lord refusing to let her take her stuff out of the house .Slapped him before I left and said we'ed be back if there was any repercussions from the event .. never heard back lol.
Good on you RJ! Agree that time is just as important as money. ATFV is set up to raise money for all sorts of causes, but have also worked for asylum seekers in a different role - some of their stories are heart breaking - and have had many run ins with what used to be called the Borders Agency, now immigration and visa's - can't say much about that for obvious reasons! But is the same old story - people in dire need, totally alone and terrified! Some real horror stories of persecution, but again can't go into any detail unfortunately! ATFV was set up to try and do something for those who had no real voice and were overlooked by the 'big name' charities. What we do will not change the world, but hopefully will make life easier for some!
I think some asylum seekers are the most deserving of people. They have real **** back home, but then get **** again in the next country. Must be heartbreaking for them to arrive and be locked up for months or years in some cases. Good on you.
Their buying drinks for everybody, everybody that was involved in European competition last year anyway. The charity is called FFP.
