The England job is a thankless burden. A poison chalice. You have to battle the clubs all the time, fighting against phantom injuries, begging club manager's, etc. always trying to get more time, more availability. When you almost inevitably fail, you will be hounded, derided, ridiculed, and turned into a root vegetable by the red top press.

Whilst I entirely agree, I don't think that managers help themselves most of the time.
They allow players to have too much power, cliques to develop and they don't use the U21 system to get the best out of the youngsters available.

Thing is, though, every manager thinks he has what it takes to lead his Nation to victory. What greater glory could there possibly be for a manager than to see his team lift the World Cup? Rodgers knows that he is never going to win the CL or the Prem, but he might just believe that he has what it takes to get England to the quarters, with an outside chance that he'll get lucky and win something.

I'm sure that he can't wait til Michael O'Neill steps aside, so that he can lead Northern Ireland to World Cup victory.

Hodgson is British - that's his nationality. I'm sure that Northern Irish people, too, carry a British passport.

"English" is not a nationality, so anyone who is "British" could hold their head high and try to lead the England team to glory.

Rodgers would be as proud as any Englishman to lead lead England (which, after all, is the capital of Britain) to the quarters of the World Cup.

<laugh> Spurf will love this! <laugh>

Who cares about Liverpool, these days they are nothing more than an irrelevance, England comes first, get Roy Rodgers into the England hot seat asap imo.

England is a nation thus English is a nationality - Which is why in various questionnaires etc you can choose your nationality as either English or British

Wrong.

"English" is not a nationality. England is part of the United Kingdom, the citizens of which (comprising the Scots, Welsh, English and Northern Irish) are British.

Any one of those countries, by itself, is not recognised, in international law, as a nation.

Dalglish and SAF are available too

Incidentally, this is one of the major reasons why the "Scottish Independence" vote is such a big issue, because it will, effectively, break up the Union, and Scotland will become an independent Nation, and being Scottish will be its own nationality.

We English, however, will remain British.

Rodgers is from Carnlough... a very nationalist area within the unionist heartland of Co. Antrim.

No idea how strong he feels his politics but it's unlikely he would manage England and equally unlikely he has a British passport!

This is a WUM and I've just bitten haven't I?
