It wouldn’t be an issue if the rules were absolute, but they’re not. Whether it’s purposeful or not, it comes across to me that it is arbitrary and solely dependent upon a narrow individualistic view of what politics is.

You write that these rules have served well for four years. Again, great and I support that if that’s the members’ will. But, when this board was set up, did the forum specifically define and discuss this ‘line’ that you mention and the limits of discussion. Perhaps it might help if you could reference this?

I sincerely do not understand why you couldn’t have let the thread live before closing it down. Really what harm could this have done?

Previously, as I’ve already mentioned on this thread, another moderator of this forum would issue a warning about its content, then later close the thread if the course didn’t change. Then even after closing the thread, this moderator would openly say that he would re-open it if someone had good reason.

I feel that you could learn from this approach and what I ask is a bit of tolerance rather than just the knee jerk closing of threads, which all in all, just makes the forum less interesting.

Just honest input from someone looking in. I apologise if it's brutal, but this one board on this site contradicts everything that this website stands for. It's like a break away fascist state on here and while he and his comrades are ruling with an iron fist on here, giving lectures about what is and isn't appropriate, he's off over to other boards arguing with users on there and disturbing the piece. What a fantastic example your leaders are. Good lads governed by ****ers.

In the spirit of this board you lads have the right to post what you want. It may mean the mods have do some graft and actually mediate. But fact is they've forced these rules into place to make their own lives easier and they don't care that it stifles your own creative freedom.

I can see I've outstayed my welcome, I'll bid you all good day. <ok>

Of course you can. The thread was left open, this one wasn't and that is the best way.

I fully support the no politics and religion rules.

Agenda driven posting has no place on here.

So if a 'political' thread is left open by the mods, you believe it’s then right to talk politics?

Your first sentence has little to do with why I started this thread.

Your second sentence concerns the many, including you.

The stated aim of all major sports is to be beyond the political and religious divide.

Men and women playing sport no matter what their politics or religion.

But sometimes the debate does include religion and politics do sometimes enter into it.

This board choose not to debate either unless it had a direct link to football or sport in general.

You are right, I do have an agenda, my aim is simple, I want to see Hull City be champions of something worthy and I want to debate issues that directly affect that.

I have neither the time or inclination to review all of the posts on that thread, never mind find it; what I do recall is holding an opinion on the employment terms of teachers, something you disagreed with (this, I think and may be wrong, was as a result of comments by a teacher that were borne from something to do with his support). I never took any particular political stance on it, I simply offered my opinion; I believe it was you who politicised my opinion and those of others. I have never offered my political stance, no do I intend to on a football board. I am pretty certain that on that and on other threads I have disapproved of posters hijacking general conversations by politicising them.
On one occasion I have complained of a thread being closed - that thread was subsequently reopened, I usually leave the mods to exercise their collective or individual judgment - so if they leave the thread open then it is fair game to comment, until that situation changes - which is often the case.
You seem to judge this in terms of the absolute, which, on a volunteer moderation board id a tad daft. The referendum thread was only going one way, if it was such a good thing why didn't you cut'n'paste it and let everyone know it was up for discussion on General Discussion? It is easy to criticise and just as easy to get around it - did you put yourself up to be a moderator?

maybe if the OP makes it clear its a political thread all those that dont want to see such a discussion can and obviously will avoid it :/

im sure the worry for the mods is that politics veers into race and religious arguments - but these should be covered in the general forum rules anyway .

It cant be about avoiding arguments or name calling as that is allowed to go unpunished all over the board and is committed by most on here anyways :)

I see picking out typos and grammatical errors a bigger turn off to a thread than most of what happens here .

that and when a counter argument begins with the dreaded

"so , what you're saying is . . . bla bla bla" and argues a different point :)

How about a trial run ? as the other locked thread was a bit like a hall pass tbf

Why do you want to turn this Hull City AFC Football Board into a General Topic Board, it makes no sense as there is already a General Topic Board along with other specialist subjects? I can understand all of the arguments for being allowed to discuss our politics and religion freely and we are, aren't we; on the General Topic Board. Or do you see the quality of the discussion(argument) on here to be some thing special to behold, or something special to disrupt? I am genuinely confused; if you see a sign that says, 'Don't walk on the grass', do you feel compelled to walk on the grass?

Unless, of course, you want to convert to my Cortez religion. You have to buy me gifts on Sundays and you can have many wives. Wanna join?
