Loic Remy: I was prepared to stay at QPR

The newly signed Chelsea striker says joining Queens Park Rangers was one of the best decisions of his career.

Loic Remy has spoken fondly of his former club QPR - after leaving the west London side for Chelsea late in the transfer window.

The 27-year-old's future with the Rs was in doubt all summer, although it looked as though Remy could stay with Harry Redknapp's side after proposed moves elsewhere fell through.

And, though the Frenchman ended up moving to the Blues, Remy says he was prepared to stay at QPR, a club he does not regret joining one single bit.

“Many thought I’d fall into obscurity by joining QPR but look at me now," he is quoted as saying by the People.

“I always try to make the best decisions for my career. I’ve come a long way from all my problems and that is not down to luck but hard work.

“My strength is that I know where I want to go and make the effort to get there. I was prepared to stay at QPR but I didn’t hesitate for a second when Chelsea came along."

However, the Frenchman admits he does not know why his proposed move to Liverpool earlier in the summer did not go through.

Remy was due to sign for the Anfield side but the Reds pulled the plug on the deal in the last minute, citing problems with the striker's medical.

"I did not understand myself. A problem during the medical examination? I do not know. They put it, that must be it," he explained.

Remy scored the winning goal for France in their 1-0 win over Spain earlier this week. France's next fixture comes at Serbia later today, while Chelsea are back in Premier League action against Swansea City next weekend.

QPR, meanwhile, will travel to Manchester United.

    Do Remy's comments seem genuine?

Personally, I now couldn't give a rats' arse what he thinks while keeping the bench warm.

    Sounds heartbroken....

What a trooper...fully prepared to play football for a living, earn grotesque amounts of money and see out a contract he signed for the soul purpose of getting a move to a different team. The guy's a hero.

Following that display of exemplary employee behaviour, I'm now fully prepared to support QPR for the rest of the season and beyond (unless another team makes me a better offer...*)

*please note that this is not actually possible

The man didn't do anything wrong. He conducted himself well, didn't ever demand a move, refuse to train or slag us off to the press unlike some. Was prepared to play even though a deal was done to move on to the scum. Don't blame him for going.

I don't blame him for going...it was his intention all along but he did play through it and not throw a hissy fit when his Liverpool move fell through.

However, saying that you are "prepared" to stay suggests some amount of reluctance, something that shouldn't even come into it if you have signed a contract. I don't think he deserves any credit for saying that he would have stayed if he had to!

Badger, being prepared to stay at a small Club because a move to a big one falls through is exactly the way a player should want to behave. What's the alternative? Refuse to train, sulk in the background and go bad mouthing the Club to the media? I think he's showed a good deal of professionalism and although he shouldn't be praised for doing what he should do anyway, he shouldn't be slated for it either.

Fact is, some are just bitter because he left and went to Chelsea of all places. There's nothing wrong with that but there's no point in trying to dress it up as something else.

I don't think it really tells us anything that we didn't already know.

We bought him when perhaps bigger teams were sniffing around and the only way we could secure that was to offer him the chance of shining in the Premier League and also giving him a contract that didn't allow us to hamper his ambitions to play at the highest level.

We bought him as a risk free gamble - pay the guy a decent wage, reap any benefits of his undoubted talent and give him the shop window to promote himself. We never had him as an investment because we didn't really intend to develop him. It was short term-ism all round.

Don't love the guy, don't feel any latent anger towards him although I feel he should have chosen a Europa League team as his next platform to show the world what he can do and question his move to Chelsea purely because they don't seem short of attacking options (most of which have already settled in after pre-season). At 27, he might think he is somewhere near his peak and doesn't want to hang around and he obviously backs himself.

At the risk of sounding like the worst remake of Casablanca in history, "We'll always have Wigan...."

Doesn't deserve credit I agree but doesn't deserve vitriol either.

Despite my mustelid moniker, I'm not a stubborn git and I'll retract my early defamation of character for Mr Remy. If I'm honest I scanned the article and on first read he came across worse than he does now I've bothered to read it properly. I must have had some bile built up in me this sunny Monday Morning!

Shame we had to sell him so late...how the hell Chelsea managed to get rid of Torres for two years is beyond me, but their timing has left us short of a good player or even a replacement. Maybe they could give us some tips on how to offload SWP...they sold him for millions!

I'm still flummoxed that he chose Chelsea over Arsenal, as I'm pretty sure he'd play more often for the Gunners, even if Giroud hadn't been injured.

But I don't hold any bile towards him for advancing his career. As has been said, he definately didn't seem to agitate for a move or throw a fit when the Liverpool transfer didn't come off. Whilst I won't wish him well, thanks to the club he signed for, I won't wish him ill either.

Exactly...just a shame we were essentially used as a stepping stone to something else. I'm sure it won't be the last time, but I just hope we get a bit more out of other players who see QPR as a useful place to develop their careers.

Reckon they'd do a straight swap, SWP for Costa? Gotta be worth a go.. If Diego's a no-go, I'd settle for a Coffee.
