Have we been done? We had Gylfi for £8 million, Southampton signed Shane Long for £12 million. Joe went to Liverpool for £15 million.

I'd have paid £15 million for Gylfi compared to those two transfers.

Valley have to say whe the deal was announced I thought **** mine we have been had here. After 3 games the deal is looking like we came out the better. Siggy is still young and will only get better. So now it looks like a very shrewd deal. I also think Ben will be back here in a year or so for a lot less than we sold him for.

In that case why did you post...

After all, we are only 3 games in and you don't have any idea how much money we received for Ben and Vorm do you?

    Your opinion vs my opinion.

    My opinion is based on;
    - reports of long negotiations all summer....Spurs were consistently reported to be reluctant to go over £10m for Ben
    - and our club publically stating that Vorm's value was considered to be £0 to get out of paying a £1m or so to Utrecht.

Your opinion seems to be based on a site which claims we have received
    - £11+m for Ben (possible)
    and
    - £5m for Vorm

that site also values the Siggy transfer at closer to £9m.

Do you know how I know that they are just putting a finger in the air and guessing? (much like you and I)
Because nobody at our club would have informed them that the real value of Vorm's transfer equated to £5m. That would be pretty ****ing dumb if they did wouldn't it.

So it boils down to nobody knows until next year's accounts. It's just opinions in the meantime.
So, a bit early to be claiming victory for yours. :)

You don't have to be a graduate from L.S.E. to get this. It's simple market stall economics.

No but you do have to be the chairman of the club who will know the in's and outs of the deals the club does and not what any fan think they know.....Jinx and the Board wont let the club down and will always do the best deal they think is right for the club....

    Errrrrr???

It's you who thinks it's too early to say, not me.

If you think we won't know till the accounts come out why keep trying to say we've been done etc..

Why do you and others keep posting that it was a great deal then?
Because this forum is about debating opinions.
...but you writing "oh dear <laugh> <laugh> <laugh>" was you claiming that I had been proved wrong wasn't it?
So I pointed out that nothing has been proved yet...

**** me talking to you is tedious. Must be even more tedious to read also.

Do try to remember all you Monk "fan boys" that we are only 3 games in, some of our signings have only had minutes on the pitch and how expensive they were (or cheap) is not known as all transfer business was undisclosed <laugh>

One more point. Laudrup made us £10m in his first window finished 9th and won our first major trophy. Let's see similar results before sucking off Monk and the new boys is it <laugh>

Because that's very much the way it looks at the moment.

Presumably if you were in Huw's position you wouldn't have gone through with the deal as it stood?

"At the moment"...short term thinking that leads to managers who have achieved a great deal getting sacked on the basis of the previous 10 games. It's what every other club has been basing decisions on for years (how are results at the moment) and it's what I despise.
    I believed we were different.

If I was Huw I'd have bought Siggy for £8m cash and let everyone else sweat on Ben until I received a bid of £15m+...as we didn't need to sell.

Only Spurs wanted Ben, and they wouldn't have paid more than £12 million for someone who will be sitting on the bench this season in the league games.

Using Bony cost as a benchmark , no way Davies was worth more than 8 million, and neither is Siggy. We'll never know how the deal went down because Huw doesnt want anyone to know , unless we get called onto the mat by the authorities which is a strong possibility. Stay tuned

    a) How do you know that?
    b) If that was true and they didn't want to go above £12m, so what? I'd have kept him.
    c) How quick are you to make a judgement? We are 3 games in. He is at a new club becoming acquainted with new team mates. We took our time with Bony and look at him now....if Federico Fernandez doesn't start against Chelsea does that mean he is destined to be a substitute for us?

Terror, it looks like we might have got Gylfi (who is a great player) and £8 million for Ben and Vorm. I consider that to be a superb deal for us, especially when we already had Taylor to replace Ben, and Fabianski has shown to be an upgrade on Vorm so far.
I don't really care who cost what, all I am concerned about, is, that given the performances so far, Monk was right with these transfers/signings.

That's fair enough and I'm glad with Siggy and Fabianski's start also.

I do care about the money involved however and feel that 3 games in is way too early to be proclaiming that Monk's transfer business has surpassed Laudrup's as...
    - Laudrup made us £10m in his 1st window
    - Those signings (which amounted to nearly half of the team) were instrumental in us finishing 9th and winning a major trophy
    and
    - when Laudrup's signings have all gone we will have almost certainly made all of our money back.

I give credit to Monk and the boys where it's due....the appropriate amount of praise for an excellent start to the season....others are happy to heap praise on Monk and his signings before they have achieved even half of what our ex-manager and players have achieved for us.

Doesnt know his arse from a whole in the ground . Is a bit closer. I love how some ASSUME we were on the road to relegation before Monk took over , with 4 games left we were closest to relegation . Only 3 fairly lucky and uninspiring results got us there. 11 teams in the relegation fight when Monk took over , no that many near the end .

So does that mean we do owe Utrecht money, or did we really buy Gylfi for a supposed £2m, as we know Spurs had a £10m bid accepted for Ben right?

After all, Ben (£10m) and Vorm (free) = £10m
So if we gained £8m + Gylfi, your saying we paid just £2m for Gylfi?

Would be pretty silly as they had already accepted £8m from Palace for him.
