**** it though right, who cares. Good times for you lot finally throwing off the financial restraints.
Wrong. Between 2004 amd 2006 we really were rubbish. Arsenal amd liverpool would have won those titles. Both those clubs would have been successful. Spurs and evertom would be a position or two better off. Chelsea would have been top 4 contenders but city, city would be in league one by now. A shambles of a club.
The oil money also created a false market, as it caused massive inflation in transfer fees and wages. Left unchecked clubs could easily have bust themselves trying to keep pace with those who were operating without any form of financial constraint. Chelsea and City have both had to operate in a totally different way this summer and the result can only benefit the competition in the longer term. Clubs now must strive to build their businesses organically in order to try and have the same spending power as the biggest clubs in the game and that's the way it should be.
I see both sides of the argument. FFP will help the big clubs strengthen their position. The sugar daddy clubs who have already benefited from massive private investment should be thankful for the timing of FFP as they are already at the big table whereas other clubs now can't even hope for a rich owner to catapult them into the big leagues. Whilst that may be frustrating for fans of clubs that will struggle to compete with the big clubs under the FFP rules, the silver lining should be that the future of those clubs will be safeguarded by FFP as it will prevent chancers from taking over clubs, having a gamble and then walking away if the gamble doesn't pay off, leaving a train wreck in their wake. It would be interesting to hear whether Leeds and Portsmouth fans would swap the CL appearances and FA Cup wins for more stability and whether they, in hindsight, wish that FFP had been in place to protect them from the fools who took their clubs to the brink.
