Courtesy of the Mirror, comes this juicy snippet. http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...hton-i-could-have-kept-norwich-up_175375.html Thing is, if there is a grain of truth in his assertions, why didn't he set the wheels of survival in motion - before we'd got to five of our trickiest fixtures of the season? All this 'fighting talk' may well impress Massimo Cellino - (though I doubt it) but sure as hell doesn't impress me. And before I get crucified for dragging skeletons out of closets, the link was on 'Newsnow NCFC' this morning
TBH he was never going to come out and say that he wouldn't have kept us up was he ? Besides, he's after another job so he's going to try and big himself up. IMO we were going down anyway and if anything City did him a favour by giving him the boot, at least he hasn't officially got another relegation on his CV
He hasn't got any relegations on his CV. He didn't do very well with us, but he's nowhere near as bad as some people make out.
Didn't do very well danary, is a bit of un understatement, I haven't noticed any rush of potential employers since he left us, but then again there was a rumour he was 'taking a rest from football', or was that football taking a rest from him. As far as applying for the job at Leeds, I think anybody would agree with an owner as toxic as Cellino, either the applicant is desperate, or is looking for a large payout within 6 months.
Surely going to Leeds and probably getting the sack within a year is only going to tarnish his CV more?
The man is delluded. We had plenty of winable games before the last 5 that we lost or drew which we should have won, that we never even competed in. What did he have planned for the last 5 games that was so spectacular?
Great, another thread in which to complain about Chris Hughton. That quote goes back to April, and has just been re-hashed. Surely everything we wanted to say has been said?
Anyone who thinks Hughton didn't do fantastic things for our club, IMO, is doing him a great disservice. There's no doubt that ultimately he wasn't up to the task of managing the first team, of course. I think he really became unstuck only when his mandate was to take us up a level. A combination of not being flexible enough and never being able to unite the fans meant he was bound to fail. However, to suggest he was an unmitigated failure, he is a poor manager, or he did irreparable damage to Norwich is not just wrong, it is also short-sighted, totally misguided and, possibly deliberately, ignorant. Hughton is clearly a genius at righting a floundering ship. His record is outstanding in that regard. That was his major achievement at Norwich and an achievement it was. He also developed our club internally using the rewards of a third season in the Prem. I think supporters who only look at the first team might miss the changes going on behind the scenes - Hughton has helped make our club a passable Premier League club in terms of structure. Ultimately, his time was up because he has shortcomings, as most managers do, but his were directly affecting the first team. I actually think he might have kept us up - that played to his skills - so it's a fair comment, but he was never going to be allowed to so it's a moot point. It was the right time for him to go and he'd taken us as far as he could. I wish him all the best - it was bad from a footballing pov but I think we'll look back at his time as a real turning point for the club in terms of the matters beyond just league position. For that I think we owe Hughton a debt of gratitude and I know others would disagree with me, but I'm going to stand by that
Hughton did have a knack of pulling a rabbit out of the hat when it was really needed though, for what it's worth I think that he may have kept you up. All water under the bridge now.
I think basically we had missed the point where we were going to stay up the WBA game for my money was the end of the road, we had also lost several other games where we need to be picking up points, agree that Hughton seemed to pick up some points that he shouldn't but he was loosing to many that he should have won.
I certainly don't think Chris Hughton did anything great. We went backwards from the moment he set foot in the door. As soon as HE got HIS team and HIS ideas instilled, it all fell apart. I genuinely think he is a poor manager and I'm astonished there are some on here who still seem to rate him. I really do hope he gets the Leeds job, they are both horrible and fully deserve each other. Hughton for Leeds!!
"Hughton is clearly a genius at righting a floundering ship. His record is outstanding in that regard. That was his major achievement at Norwich and an achievement it was" (Canary Rob). I'm not sure I could agree with this - first season in charge and our position at the end of it was a false one - WBA and Man City building sandcastles on the beach already we rose from what 17th to 11th on the back of ghost oppositions. The momentum that might have been there post Paul Lambert well and truly uncovered in season two under him where achievement you speak of was not his but more down to a 7 year masterplan from DM. Genius not. Lucky to be part of a wellish run ship? Maybe.
The "righting" of the Norwich City ship took place the preceding summer, when he took over a club reeling from losing possibly the most important manager it had had in 20 years. I made it quite clear that his shortcomings lie in his direct management of the first team, which is why he was rightly sacked IMO, as this is the most important measure. All I'm saying is it shouldn't be the only measure.
