Good Lord, I was in that group - or another one just like it! We were standing just to the left of the goal (seems like it was only last night!) standing amongst the disbelieving Saints fans with huge smirks on our faces. You're right, that was a truly awesome display of attacking football that night - can still remember the feeling of immense pride in 'our team'.
Dan, no need to fear my wrath. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and, quite often, others' don't tally with my own! What I was getting at was that some fans loudly get on his back and that's not on. It's simply counterproductive. It used to get on my nerves when people did the same to Bruce Dyer (the second time round) and Lloyd Doyley (before he became an idol). We all have players we rate higher/lower than others but, while they're on the pitch giving it their all, I think we must support them along with the rest of the team. So long as you back Jenkins when on the field, as I'm certain you do, then I have absolutely no problem with you not rating him. There have been a number of players over the years about whom I've had polar opposite opinions to other fans I know; Jenkins won't be the last to divide opinion either.
Cheers OLM, i will never boo a player. I might say that pass was useless, or shout pass or what ever, but no more than that. I know i am no where near as good as them. However at th end of every game i clap and cheer any player i see.
i would never not support a player in a Watford shirt. He does make me nervous a lot...but like i said, he's not close to stepping into JE's shoes..yet. Hopefully he will improve, he certainly has the ability, otherwise i'm sure he'd have been moved on by now!
I'm the same, Dan and Hornette. You would need the patience of a saint not to get frustrated during a game and all of us, sometimes, wonder why a player is dallying in possession or why he took on that shot from an impossible range and/or angle. Voicing that is only to be expected and it's part and parcel of going to a match. However, consistently picking on the same player via low-level groans or sarcastic jeers can crush a player's confidence, which does none of us any good. By the sounds of it, none of us on here are guilty of that but we must all have come across it at Vicarage Road. In my opinion, it's only lack of effort that's inexcusable in a Watford shirt, hence why the Vialli era was such a disgrace. I expect misplaced passes, poor positioning and wayward shots on the other hand. I've seen it all before!
quite right ..i'm sure i've mentioned in other posts the people that sit behind me. Honestly? One day i'm going to turn round and slap them! And then, i'm going to ask them why the bother coming! grrr! They spend the whole 90 minutes moaning, especially at the moment about Scott Loach, but most players get it at some point or other, and then he'll disappear for a few mins, and when he comes back he'll say some sarcastic comment about enjoying being away from the game, it was more exciting..or some such inane comment! And, to make it worse, she has the most irritating voice on the planet! Oops! /rant! lol
Good news ,I think RJ is a late developer and the best is yet to come from him, when he has muscled out a bit , he will be a big asset!
From the reports I saw, I thought he deputised for JE pretty well when he was out - but maybe not so well when they played together. Maybe they are just too similar and get in each other's way or something, or he is just unsure of his role. His time will come but am happy to see him staying and playing when he is needed! As for booing a player - not, no, would never do that! As people say, it's counter-productive. I must admit, I get frustrated with watching with my old man - once he doesn't like a player, he will moan about him all game, even if he does something good... and I will stick up for the guy, partially to wind my Dad up, but also to try and get him to change his mind about him!
