6ft 4in but still about 16 stone. Done London marathon twice and like cycling although still always have trouble shifting the weight. I'll find out if I'm in the marathon again in about a month which will mean another winter of hard work. Must admit though enjoying 5 a side and boot camp more than running.

5ft 8in. About a 12lbs over at the minute. All of that went on over the summer.

54 year old, go to the gym 4-5 times a week with my wife. She's got a big operation coming up so we are working on her core at the minute, trying to make sure she's as fit as **** for the operation, which'll make her recovery, hopefully, that much easier, and quicker.

The older you get, the more attention you have to pay to your health and fitness.

Some guy above said he's knees were ****ed, and he's got quite a few years on me.

Big tip here, NEVER run on the treadmill at the gym.

Stick the incline on max and put the walking pace on 20 minutes, walking uphill at a fast pace will burn all that crap off!

Reduced portions were hell at first, now my stomach has shrunk it's no problem.

    You're a big lad aren't you.

Don't do running at all mate, not till I've brought my weight down enough. Hate treadmills anyway, I'm nervous on them. Don't do the gym at all and don't intend to until I've burned most of my fat off doing boxercise and that won't be until I've shed another three stone. Going to take a good few years to get where I want to be but I'm happy with that. Don't want to lose to much too quickly. I've got stretched skin to think about.

Biggest mistake most people make is losing too much too quickly Funk. The only thing guaranteed from that is putting the weight straight back on.

Running is really bad on the knees mate, and then the ankles. Don't do it, ever!

Don't worry about treadmills either. They have their uses. My youngest is a fitness fanatic and he told me to stop running on them. He said ramp up the incline to max, and just walk as fast as you can. The weight just flies off. And it's true. Downside of my regime is Guinness!

Well done Bri and Mr Raw, I played football (training twice a week) Saturday, Sunday morning and afternoon until I was 27, then football at a lower level and gym 3 times a day 6 days a week until I was 40.

My knees and back are crocked now but still manage a bit of walking at 60 although I need to take a leaf out of both of your books and have a rapid weight loss before it's too late.

Going to be nowt rapid about mine fella, That's just my first month surge. The speed I'm losing weight has slowed right up. Going to take a long long time.

Can't beat a good walk fella, one of the most pleasurable activities in life.

Goods news as the scots look like they might vote for Yes.....if they do, the rest of the UK will benefit as the poor lifestyles of the scots has been dragging down the life expectancy of the rest of us by FOUR MONTHS <laugh>

So, if they vote Yes we live an extra four months  bring it on.

    Three routines for me.

My favourite thing to do for keeping fit is training with my Mrs. She loves German Body Composition training which is weight training exercise supersets all focusing on specific rest periods. It gets ridiculously intense and it really gets the best out of me. I'm on Beta-blockers so I find it difficult to get a good C-V work out so tend to stick to weight training unless I'm doing the pads/mat work with the lads.

My second routine is the sparring stuff which is always fun but I sometimes end up aching like **** at work all day! Full force, unguarded training with some guys who weigh more than a large zoo animal!

Third thing is cross fit, great for conditioning. Love doing this type of training.

My diet at the minute carbs are allowed for breakfast or any other food I eat up until 10am, after this I eat only protein and fats, or carbs from veg such as broccoli. No bread/grains/nuts/sugars/potato/rice/pasta so my lunch and dinner and meals in between are usually just a lot of meat, cottage cheese, fish etc. the logic is that I eat more times per day which is great for my metabolism and muscles are feeding constantly. Also it don't see the point in eating a load of carbs for dinner when three hours later I'm off to sleep, the body doesn't need that crap.

My only issue is how **** I am at thinking of meals to make. I have about 4 dinners I make on rotation!

Just joined The Raich Carter Centre. Loving going for a swim most days after training. Not loving showin the belly I've developed over the last two years or so:( Can't say I've noticed many admiring looks thrown my way! Wouldn't mind starting some combat training though as well just for some variety.

A 9km run for me is easy. I regularly cover more than that distance when I'm out... However, I played football for 60 minutes on a 6 a side and was blowing out of my arse after 20. Interval training is totally different to a nice easy running pace. Effectively a football match is interval training to the nth degree as it's not a case of covering 9 km but it's a case of sprinting 40 or 50 metres every minute or so or more often and twisting and turning and the like. That's why players cramp up and get tired quicker than they would on a longer run
