I credited you with better powers of observation than that, maybe I was wrong? Phil uses lots of smiley's.

Also don't know about you, but the reply to terror seemed to come from the wrong account may just be me though.

'I've never said a bad word'...Swansea City star Neil Taylor denies pushing for move ahead of Ben Davies departure

Full-back Taylor insists he has not been pushing for a move but admits he is eager to start showing what he can do again



Arch-rival Ben Davies may have gone, but Swansea City full-back Neil Taylor insists he is taking nothing for granted ahead of the new Premier League season.

With 21-year-old Davies departed for Spurs as part of the deal that brought Gylfi Sigurdsson back to the Liberty Stadium, it is expected Taylor will simply reclaim his crown at left-back for the Swans under boss Garry Monk.

After signing from Wrexham in 2010, Taylor impressed greatly and proved himself the go-to man in that position before a nasty broken ankle sustained in September 2012 ruled him out of action for more than seven months.

He could only look on as youngster Davies seized the opportunity with both hands, remaining Swansea's first-choice even when Taylor returned from injury.

It led to plenty of talk that something had to give, with Taylor and Davies, both Wales internationals, both linked with moves away from the club.

With Davies now gone Taylor insists some of the comments attributed to him were never said and that reports of his alleged unrest at Swansea were in fact wide of the mark.

But he admits his future is now totally committed to the Swans and even if things are not as assured as some might believe his aim now is to get back into Monk’s starting XI week-in-and-week-out.


“We are playing in the Premier League so there are no guarantees about anyone’s place in the team,” said 25-year-old Taylor.

“If you look at our squad, we are strong all over the park You can see there are two players in every position. We keep creating more competition every week. We are looking to add even more.

"Everybody is vying for places and nobody is safe from that in the Premier League. You must prepare and play the same way you always do and that is what I have done regardless. Of course I want to play more than I did last season. That’s the key for any player.

“I don’t know if it looked from the outside that me or Ben needed to be sold. It was obvious that we are both internationals, that we are both players who think we can play at this level. I suppose a decision had to be made, but a lot of stuff was put in the press that I never said.

"Agents were apparently saying that one of us had to go, but none of that came from me. I was sat there this summer waiting to see what happened and in the end the club has decided to sell Ben. That’s the fact of the matter.

“I love this football club. It has done amazing things for me. I’ve never said a bad word. The key for me is to start playing well and most importantly I want to do well for the manager. He’s working incredibly hard at this job and we all want to do well for him.”



Taylor did find himself very much playing second-fiddle to Davies last season. He managed just six league starts for the Swans whilst Davies lined-up from the off in 32.

But Taylor insists it was not a wasted campaign and has helped him get back into the swing of things following that serious injury.

And whilst he is not expecting anything to come easily following the departure of Davies, Taylor is certainly hoping he will have a much bigger role to play for Monk and the Swans when the new campaign gets underway next month.

Taylor added: “I’ve always said a run of games will get me back to where I was. Every game I played last season, I don’t think I let them down. I captained the team a few times too. I felt I played well when I did play.

"That’s the way things go. I had the injury and then last season I played a good few number of games. Maybe fate has played a hand, I’ve played my way back in, I’m really ready and maybe fate has panned things out this way for me.”

 

So he's never said he wanted away (before or after his injury) and he's happy now he has virtually no competition for his place!

I really hope Monk and Jenkins haven't taken that bull and are actively seeking a replacement for Ben Davies.
