I was at the game yesterday and to be totally honest we got turned over by a better team on the day.
Allen, Henderson & Gerrard controlled midfield, their back four had our front four wrapped up, their attackers pulled our defence apart.

We can all bang on about Dowd giving dodgy decisions etc, but the simple truth is the better team won.

Not many positives to take from the game but at least Lamella showed some fight and commitment during the game unlike many others, Dier looked good yesterday, penalty aside.
Apart from that, it was all poor.

On the penalty, it happened virtually in line with where I sit/stand and in real time it looked a penalty. The subsequent dive was uncalled for though.

Let's hope it's a wake up call and reality check for us.

And lastly, fair play to the pool fans yesterday, can't remember many away fans at the Lane, as noisy throughout the game as they were yesterday.

  3. To be fair, though, the Mousers were the only ones who actually had something to shout and cheer about!

Well balanced analysis, though, Junction <ok>.

Think that is a very fair post, i was gutted with the penalty we were given, i remember us conceding one like that when berbatov got brushed in our area few years back, it sucks.
Ftr i do not think it was a pen and feel Allen should have been booked.
We will never know if it would have turned the game, it could have done or equally we could have gone on to win it.
I do hope Levy gives poch a chance - you have some quality down there, i have been jealous by some of your squad which i had hoped we would have gone for. Good luck for rest of league (apart from one game) - lets feck the system and both of us get top four :)

You'd have been down to 10 if Allen got booked for a dive, he picked up a card in the first half.

You're right, we don't know how the game would've panned out but I think it's fair to say that it was a crucial decision in the match. In the first half we had 52% possession and in the second half we had 70%, I think that's down to the fact that once we were more than a goal down we needed a goal just to get back into the game. That meant you guys could sit back and counter whilst we had to take risks and try to play our way through.

I feel like I must've seen a different game to everyone else, a bit like the City game when I thought it was an even match up until the goal, whilst all the pundits and commentators seemed to think you were dominating. If people do think Liverpool were on top against City then it only goes to highlight what a difference a goal can make in the match as it was all City from then on. No one will ever know what would have happened in our match had the penalty not been given but what we do know is that the ref was very inconsistent giving Liverpool a soft penalty and turning down a far more blatant one at the other end.

    Agreed, totally Mr Vicious :)
I would be angry-frustrated too but please remember we were not the ref but I think we got the benefits on that one. The ifs can go on all day - look at the offside we had against v city last season was that the title decider?
On this occasion - felt a bit for you guys - Like I said before, let's hope you give pochetino some time .

On the plus side for Pochettino, I think the fans will turn on Levy long before they turn on Pochettino.

You also got a number of decisions go your way, like Suarez not getting sent off at 2-2 in the match at Anfield that you went on to beat City in.

I'm not angry with Liverpool but I do despair when I see people justifying that kind of dive, whether they're Liverpool fans, pundits, journalists or whoever. It's not Liverpool specific, we have players that will do it too as does every other team, I'm sure, but it's the kind of thing that really annoys me.

The inconsistency as well annoys me. From what I can remember we've had 5 penalties given against us in 2014, 3 against last season's top 4, 2 had red cards rescinded proving they were not actually fouls and the other was your debatable one. I don't like to sound like a conspiracy theorist but I think it highlights that refs give the bigger sides more decisions. We've benefited from it too(we had 2 poor decisions give us penalties last season against lower clubs) but again the frustration stems from the flat out denial that this exists, managers get fined for pointing it out.

Anyway, that's my moaning done, good chatting with you. I'd say good luck for the rest of the season but I wouldn't mean it, no offence, but when you play Arsenal and Chelsea I'll be cheering you on :D

Dowd is so far up cheque book Rodgers arse, when Roy looks in the mirror and opens his mouth to clean his tippexed teeth, Dowd is there staring at him.

Not a fan then, Billy? <laugh>

Edit: I thought I'd see if Googling Dowd, Tottenham and Liverpool came up with anything interesting. I think it did.
He took charge of a previous encounter between the teams in 2012 after which Rodgers slaughtered him publicly.
Coincidentally he incorrectly booked a Welshman for diving during the game. Shame he couldn't have corrected that mistake, eh?

I'm usually one of the ones to say, there's less in this than there appears, it's usually a very fine line, etc., but I saw the same game you did Sunday. What I noticed from the start was that our players didn't really believe they were better, and after an initial period of trying to attack as wholeheartedly as Liverpool, gave up a goal and never quite got back on the front foot. Where were the runners going at the goal? My guess is they were still catching their breath from tracking Liverpool runners. I could quibble about midfield. While we got outplayed at both ends, we more than held our own in the middle, as our edge in corners and big edge in possession indicated. But doing decently in the middle of the field while losing the battle at both ends is a recipe for defeat, as it was here.

Anything can change a game, of course. I thought we desperately needed Ade and especially Chadli to score, but I think this would have led to a one or two goal defeat. As it stood, 2-0 or 3-1 would have been fairer given the fact that Ade was fouled more severely than Allen. But Liverpool were better.

I hope the team takes this as a useful reality check, as you say. Liverpool also play an attacking style, they were second in the PL last year, and they're still better at it, which really should not be surprising, when we have a much newer coach and somewhat younger team, other than Ade. I had him and Dier as our best players, incidentally. Dier tried hard, entertained, and won a lot of 50-50s. Ade tried hard, settled the team, created a few chances and interrupted Liverpool control to some extent.

How sad , pretend it would be incredible if you lose.

Then , some time later pretend that you entirely expected it and was being ironic.

    tsk tsk .

And all the teams they have played are in the bottom half and none have had a win yet. I'm not sure this will last though.

There is usually a part of the season we're above them, the problem is that after 38 games they are ALWAYS* above us

    *not always-always, just always.

I don't think what that escapee from Ja 606, Not bright enough - or whatever he calls himself, is of any importance to any of us.

I think it would be far better if he took his little icons and smileys and pissed off back to his natural home.

Criticising HIAG for posting outrageous claims is like slagging off an actor for something his character's done.
This is something that most children could understand, FFS.

Half the time, PNP, I write the things I write for my own amusement. Occasionally, I might raise a smile with a kindred spirit, and that pleases me, too.

What annoys most Gooners on this site is that I always end up "owning them" with such subtle put-downs, and always with a rakish smile. I understand something, now, of why it was that Ghandi was so hated.

I'm waiting for the HIAG thread about Spurs inevitably becoming the first club to play on the moon and various people responding with "OMG! Don't be ridiculous! I can't believe you think that!".
It's bound to happen sooner or later.

"Hey, Keanu! Why did you take the red pill, dude? Total dick move!" <doh>
