Must say I've never been a fan of him, think he got away with it for years because he was playing with an exceptional team. That being said I do think he's better than Mings.
agree, i have never been a fan either and thought he got away with a lot because of where he was. although he probably is better than what we have so i am happy. players who don't have comp for their place is always a problem and they get complacent, and recently that has always been our goalie and rb, never really had decent enough comp for reina sadly, and johnson better, late than never i suppose.(ie final year of contract any way)
Can't recall any games in which I watched Valdez play where I've said what a great save he's made. No idea if he's actually a good keeper, whether he can command a penalty box or claim balls. All I know is that he can pass...
Very good signing if it happens. Jones scares the living daylights out of me - so to have Migs and Valdes would be great. For me Jones isn't even championship quality, I know he's been through a lot but there is no time in football for sentiments.
Jones is decent third keeper but too risky for second keeper. Don't mind Valdes - even if he's equal to Mignolet that will be excellent because we'll be playing whoever is in better form.
I never rated him. He had the best job in World football for years - being paid millions to keep goal for a Barca side who were rarely under heavy pressure defensively & when they were he rarely looked up to the standard of his team mates i.e. among the best around. The fact that he's unattached at an age when a keeper is considered to be at their peak, speaks volumes.
The strange thing is that Casillas (33), Reina (32) and Valdes (32) are all about the same age, and none of them can be considered to be anything close to peak in terms of form. Is there something wrong with Spanish goalkeepers?
