In laymans/my terms: the rule is that the player must be registered by the deadline or you can't include him in your team. When you play him, you'll break that rule.

It depends.

 

On what? Hitchin Town never break these rules, why can't the big clubs and Celtic abide by them?

 

Not got a clue but it's been going on for years with little in the way of complaint from anyone. Probably because FIFA realise it's in no one's interest to stop a player moving to another club and potentially getting to play actual competitive games.

 

Damn those pesky facts again.

 

All seems a bit vague, when's the real deadline? Are there different deadlines defined for players based on age/experience? What's the point in having a deadline if it's not enforced?

 

As long as FIFA are satisfied that the signing process was started before the deadline of Midnight on 31 August, then the transfer is usually allowed. There's wriggle room for everyone.

Free agents can sign for a club any time too. Common sense, like the apparent flexibility in the rules for signings.

Anyhoo, I was talking to a sellic friend tonight and apparently they did miss the deadline. They started registration but did not complete until after midnight. Celtic then asked for a favour from UEFA and apparently got it.

 

"So" what's new? Its Ra Sellic don't ya know.

 

You have to laugh at Timmy's ever shifting attitude as to whether rules should be strictly enforced or not.
