I've not been too clear with what I meant really. Rooney out wide doesn't make sense to me. He's certainly one of our better players, but I'd rather see him in a central role where he can have a greater influence, and his weaknesses defensively aren't so exposed (again, not that he's shocking at it, but not a natural). Milner would have offered a better balance for me in the wide positions. Welbeck being the one who drops out of the starting side.

As for captain, personally I'd have gone for Gary Cahill.

I agree about Cahill, he's one of the few England players I think are OK.

I think Rooney should be kicked out, I think he's past it, he's far too much of a focal point of the team and when he's comes up against the best he just dissappears. Poor first touch and gives the ball away far too much with even the simplest of passes.

Typical English star player, power based with a bit of skill. Until these players are in the minority within the squad nothing will change.

Still, the Germans won the World Cup with it, granted their bit of skill outweighs our own by some distance but theres not a great deal of difference between the two, they are both robotic.

Anyway, I'm really pleased for Tettey, for what he does, he's a great player for us.

Can someone justify Jack Colback's inclusion in the England team?

He looks a bit like Scholes.

Why should it have to be justified? Do you watch him week in and week out? I don't mean for 30 seconds on match of the day! I've seen him play several times and I think his place is justified!

No offence Dave, but would Colback have been anywhere near the England team ten years ago? Of course not. To a lot of people, myself included, it merely signifies the continued decline of English football.

I would like to see team England succeed being an Englishman but most of the players seem out of touch with the real World and the passion and pride of playing for their country has been lost somewhere down the line.
We are a laughing stock in World football and I can't defend them ,2 tap ins at the World cup and dull lackluster performances for the last 3 or 4 tournaments at least.
Out of the current crop of talent I rate Sturridge and Cahill ,Wilshire can be good on his day but other than that they are all very average players .
I am excited to see how Tettey plays and I really don't care about the millionaire England players , they will not win anything just there to make up the numbers .
Dave must have gone to a few Sunderland games last year and seen something first hand that I missed because Colback doesn't deserve a call up in my opinion over Dyer of Swansea for example
Roy Hodgson failed to get us playing at the World cup and should have been axed , the only reason he's still here is they don't want to pay him off like the other flops.

Danny Mills, Alan Smith, Alan Thomson, Anthony Gardner, Ian Walker, Mathew Upson, ... all played for England 10 years ago. I'm not sure the inclusion of Colback demonstrates a significant drop in standards ;)

    Wembley almost empty.

I wouldn't pay to watch it, must admit.

    Hope Tettey belts one in!

He's on the bench but hopefully he will get a game as it's a friendly.

Wes and Pilks off after 59 minutes. That's one come through anyway, after an influential performance.

I'd like to see Tettey rewarded with a new contract. That way we won't have to see too many of these games where he's not in yellow and green.

Fair enough Swedish Dave, but I'm afraid my City concerns are stronger than my English ones! :cheesy:

If you think our attendance is bad, Russia only had 3,500 watch them thrash Azerbaijan according to the BBC.
