Yes, I've heard and read the same. Before an urban myth gets under way: he accepted two thirds of what he was on. He took a cut of a third, which is still impressive, though.

    SANDRO
The most eloquent assessment of Sandro's ability was the long, long list of Tottenham fans who posted their regrets and, indeed, anger at his transfer. His interview was interesting: very slow, deliberate use of English but real determination, passion and a BIG smile. He's going to be great.

    NICO
The key to me was his fitness, or lack thereof. He looked well over weight last season. According to TF he has lost weight and gained fitness. A fit Nico is a very valuable addition to our squad. No-one can deny that, in his interview, he oozed affection for our club and its fans. A welcome return.

Apparently 65%, which does indeed seem a lot - was on SSN too:
"Harry Redknapp revealed earlier in the day that the Croatian has taken a 65 per cent pay cut to make the move."

Nico also gives an another option to Barton for taking free kicks outside the box.

I'm quite happy with Mr Kranjcar rejoining.

Something tells me that he was told that they would like to have him back ... BUT ... he MUST come back fit and with the weight off.

Not an easy thing over the summer break ... but he did it. Fair play.

Yes, I thought the same. Would also explain why it was left to the end of the window (also adds to deadline day drama too).

I was concerned that we were going in to the season without any flair players. However, now with Niko, Taarabt (no new thread intended), Hoilett looking up for it and Phillips, once he's shaken off the rust and back to full match fitness, I feel that we do have a squad capable of creating chances.

BTW let's not forget how he got injured in the last game of the season, forcing him to miss the World Cup. Many Croatians like myself were pretty fricken pissed off about that.

That's a really good point. He played the final, knowing he was not fully fit and effectively sacfriced his place in the World Cup.

That had slipped my mind too. I think it's fair to say he's the right sort when it comes to his attitude and application. I'm not going to speak for anyone else but the more that comes out about him, the more pleased I am we have him back.

Yep, you're right, 65% or 66% pay cut seems a lot and, I see, is being widely reported. On transfer night, I'm sure I heard Harry say Niko was taking two thirds of his previous salary. Who knows..?.

Personally the figures don't matter to me much. It the principle that he'd rather be with us than line his wallet that speaks most. What a breath of fresh air when you consider Borini's attitude.

True. I hope the new lightweight, economical Niko does well for us. I'm sure he'll be well received by fans

Here is the clip, at around the 1.09 mark he says 'I think (fink) he took a third of the wages he was on over there (meaning Russia)' so a 66% pay cut would be right, top man anyway but even more so if this is true.

Yes, he's clear there, so it's probably definitive. The interview I saw was outside LR at 10.58pm when I'm sure he said two thirds. As Stroller says, Harry doesn't do numbers, and to be fair to the guy and TF, I doubt they'd slept much after Remy went and they both looked knackered.

I think with Sandro as the holding enforcer it will leave Nico to concentrate on what he does best... Going forward and supplying the killer pass.
