Just got my internet back. Hi Wooly, I take it you didn't get to Hickstead. It was very hot. I expect you were sensible and went to the beach.

Laytown races occupies a unique position in the Irish and English racing calendar as it is the only race event run on a beach under the rules of the Turf Club.

Never been but planning on going to next meeting, looks like great craic!

Just been browsing tomorrow's cards and one stands out in particular , and has been well beaten by the fav in the past (so be warned) . The horse in mind has been running well of late and if the conditions stay good to soft I can see them getting sweet revenge . Plus as a bonus laddies is offering 10s so ew friendly too.

Smart race for two year olds at Salisbury tomorrow at 4:20 and although still a maiden I think PASTORAL GIRL is monstrously long at 16-1. She is already placed in this grade and has improved with every run. She is simply too big for me to ignore at that price.

All opinions on the race most welcome, its a good un!

Esteaming hasn't got the best figures next to him of late but double figures looks very brave from the bookies Gibbons takes the mount again at probrably the right distance , the give in the ground should also aid in what looks an open race. Ew

I had full English in the pub down the road, lunch at the showground and dinner at my sister's (in Dorset). It was a very enjoyable day thanks. My only regret was that I didn't get a chance to go to Brighton & Hove, my second home.

New Providence will be a tough nut to crack, however as that 16-1 is with Stanley James, who has recently credited every account holder with a free fiver bet, I took up that offer!

Cracking G3 with 6 LTO winners and a decent field...very tricky race with possibly those drawn low having a slight advantage.

The Hannon horse bolted in on debut and the form thus far has been franked.Interesting that the Godolphin filly turns out again quickly over a furlong shorter on a stiffer track. She pulled on debut when winning at HQ and LTO at Goodwood,in a similar grade, which is one place you don't want to run free with the downhill aspect of that venue. Her form has been upheld as well but so many from the Godolphin yards do not progress from debut and her draw in box 9 is hardly a bonus.

No bet for me with 1/5 odds for 3 places in a 14 runner event representing no value.

Interesting maiden in the race before with the top horse having a beautiful pedigree.About time Ballymacoll started breeding some speed into their stock but highly unlikely this filly will be even put in the race competitively despite her impressive portfolio of entries. The jockey booking says it all but still worth a squint in the market.

I'm interested in Call Rog on Friday off a very nice mark over his correct trip on his h'cap 'chase debut,if he gets the nod from Frank Berry from the owners many entries.

Anyone else staying up to watch a bit of the Mc Henman match?...3/1 available for any tennis punters!

Good racing today. Angel Vision is of great interest. By Oasis Dream out of the 4 times Group 1 winning Islington, this filly has had good gallops mentions from early in the season. Enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that Islington did not win as a 2yo (though listed placed) and that so far she's been a bloody awful broodmare (as are many top fillies) and you only have to look at the woeful performance of her Upper Street yesterday..
But I think Angel Vision will be different. She's been entered well and withdrawn twice because of soft going and being in season. So a winner for Ryan and a fisrt time out victory for Sir Michael.

Angel Vision, what a lovely name for a filly by the way, was given a hugely positive word in the ‘Weekender’ a couple of weeks ago by their Newmarket correspondent. He said she had been working exceptionally well and fully expected her to be the first offspring of Islington to go onto achieve decent things.

Looks quite a tough debut for Angel Vision today though as both the Hannon and Hills runners have looked well above average in their initial outings.

My Son Max was claimed out of the county after his run at Beverley last time. Had apparently become quite mulish and this was evident in his final run, for Michael Blake, as not for the first time he missed the break by several lengths. However, in fairness to the horse he, from that point on, put up a remarkable performance to make up this deficit and win.

If his new surroundings and connections can rejuvenate the old boy he would be a very interesting contender on the beach. On non-turf he has a decent strike rate – 4 wins from 18 runs.

From Sporting Life:

The official enquiry into Saint Helena's improved performance concluded: "The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, SAINT HELENA (IRE), ridden by A P McCoy and trained by Jim Best, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer who stated that the mare, who had been a very buzzy type in the past, settled better today and had benefited from a break of one hundred and twenty-five days since her last run. He added that the mare was suited by the firmer ground on this occasion. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of SAINT HELENA (IRE) could be reviewed. The Stewards ordered the mare to be routine tested."

A very buzzy type who settled better after a 125 day break? Hmmmmm.

A rare treat for me today - the local "fish smoker" was here and I had a VERY tasty filet of smoked salmon - stunning. 10/10
