    Chris.
    Brillaint point.
They key for FSG is not price, and I doubt it if thats the stumbling block. However they won't be held to ransom.I believe one of the factors is age, another being minutes on the pitch. They since January have invested £74 million on 3 players and the oldest is Luis Suarez at 24.One of the reasons why they sanctioned the Henderson signing is due to the minutes he had on the pitch...He played 37 league games. Now if it takes until the end of the month to bring in players that fit both these criterias then so be it.I wouldn't be worried yet by any means.

A brilliant piece by Tomkins on Comolli and LFC transfer strategy here

    http://tomkinstimes.com/2011/06/hol...mes (The Tomkins Times)&utm_content=Google UK

Ironically JWH was on twitter earlier basically telling LFC fans that older players should not be dismissed as transfer targets because of their age... rather interesting if you ask me as my thoughts were anything 24 and under would be deemed too old but obviously not

He was saying that we weren't going to sign older players wasn't he? I thought anyway.

Yea, I thought he was saying that too. That we're building for long term and don't want any stop gap players.

I never got the impression he said we wouldn't sign older players (or just young players).

I thought they were just disappointed with the length of the contracts of older players, not that older players were a bad idea.

"Speculation on players shouldn't include those of a certain age,"

"We are not going to be successful by merely filling short-term needs at LFC."

That is a direct quote from John W Henry.

It seems that JWH is reaching out to the fans and telling us not to panic and that all is in hand

There is a link between the 2 apparent opposite statements. The answer lies in the term 'residules'.

As in the US, FSG are prepared to pay for young talent that they can develop and exploit with the bonus of of a high transfer value at the end of their time with the club. That is clear from their actions with Suarez and Carroll. Neither are they frightened by big numbers as their US spending indicates.

Henry now appears to be adding to that strategy by saying that 'older' players who can add to the strength of the team can also be considered but that they aslo must be capable of earning a residual. In essence he's ruling-out the Kakas of this world - high price, little/no longevity, no residual. He is ruling-in, 26-30 year olds (at the right price) who can do a job for the team and have a smaller residual.

FSG are a business operation firstly and sports fans secondly. Personaly I like their model as it takes out the emotional/desperate buys.
