QPR's Joey Barton set for new contract despite deadline day signing of fellow midfielder Sandro

Barton fink: The midfielder is likely to earn a new deal at QPR

QPR chief Tony Ferdnandes wants to give Joey Barton a new deal despite the £10million arrival of Sandro.

Fernandes is a huge fan of Barton, who is in the last year of his contract, and wants him kept on.

The 31-year-old midfielder impressed in helping the club to promotion last season and has continued to make a solid contribution.

He looked to have played his last game for the club two years ago, when he was sent off at former club Manchester City.

With his team battling relegation in the final game of the season, Barton was dismissed in disgrace for flooring Carlos Tevez with an elbow to the throat and then kicking out at Sergio Aguero.

After being red-carded, he was involved in further confrontations with Vincent Kompany and Mario Balotelli.

City went on to beat the 10-man Hoops, with a goal in stoppage time, to snatch the title from neighbours Manchester United.

Following his subsequent 12-game ban he was farmed out on loan to Marseille where he claimed he had only joined QPR for the money.

Marseille, however, did not take up the option to sign him permanently and Barton returned to QPR.

He has made a success of his second spell in west London, however, and Fernandes wants him rewarded with a new deal and a pay rise.

Sandro, signed on deadline day, is set to be part of the same team as Barton as Redknapp continues with the 4-3-3 formation that earned the club their first win of the season last Saturday over Sunderland.

Pay rise? The article was going well up until that point. Utter tosh.

Roller is not going to be happy, he is not a fully fledged member of the Joey fan club yet.

I think this is a good deal for both parties.

Whilst his form dipped at the end of last season, you cannot fault his desire and application. He gave 100% last season and was rightly installed as captain.

His set pieces - in his own admission - need to improve; but his distribution on Saturday against Sunderland was fantastic.

I do however think it's a bit profligate offering him a salary increase from his current salary believed to be circa £65k per week. Especially as he turned 32 yesterday.

[And yes - before Rollercoaster Ranger enquires - I did sent him a birthday card! <laugh> only joking!]

I can believe this, well, everything up to the 'pay rise.' I can see us offering a new deal but it will most certainly be on reduced or level terms.

Without any direct corroboration from a club source, how can this be anything more than speculation and conjecture.

Our media bloke Taylor seems to have an unhealthy infatuation with Barton.

Reckon he’s leaking stories to the press and adding in comments like the apparent pay rise

Joey has a starting place at the moment and should probably keep it since we won last week and he's playing well enough.

Long term, we have just bought £22 million (?) on three midfielders with an average age of 23 - 24.

With no malice intended, if all goes well, he should be a squad player in the near future.

It does also raise the question of player purchase responsibility - TF likes him and wants to offer a new deal, TF allegedly had someone recommended on Twitter (frightening if true - could be the Liverpool lad that we've loaned out) and Arry has been bringing in the targets in the main. I assume there's a large amount of crossover in terms of players that they like but surely someone needs out and out control. For me, it should be Arry with the financial side of securing his targets down to the Beard, I mean board. Suggestions welcome but also backed by the scouts that were praised up earlier in the Summer.

Not having any go at anyone but it is something that has made me wonder in the last week (and it might already be structured and clear but misrepresented by the chip-papers).

I'll ignore the pay rise bit on the assumption it's rubbish.

Good news! He is the "balls" of our team. Maybe Sandro could be same kind of type of player but there is anything wrong to have two of them in a team. Yes, and i send a postcard to Joey with all our names on it;)

A team with a pair of balls. Sounds interesting.

What confuses me is how a player who plays in a position that's reasonably well covered is given a new contract but a player (Simpson) is kicked out when we have only one loan player in that position.

After reading this I got to thinking about Isla. I think we have an option to buy at the end of the season. This leads me to two thoughts. One, our staying up has a big bearing on us signing him. I don't think he would if we go down. But more importantly my second point is this. With the way Tony dealt with the Borini saga, makes me think he is wising up, hopefully that means what ever option we have on Isla could well be a good one in a business sense.

EDIT: Sorry bit of a thread Hijack.
