Back in 2007 we were beginning our first season in the third tier of English football for seven years, and after a win and two draws as well as a highly commendable effort against two illustrious opponents in the Carling Cup, we then came up against two-time European champions Nottingham Forest. We made the perfect start against a side full of players with much greater pedigree. Byron Anthony opened the scoring with a fine turn and shot which beat Paul Smith in the Forest goal - the first time he netted for Rovers in the league. The lead was doubled just two minutes later when Richard Walker converted a penalty following a foul on Lewis Haldane by left-back Luke Chambers. However, the two goal lead lasted barely a minute as Anthony turned villain when he guided a header past Steve Phillips - the first of his numerous own goals for Rovers. Forest got their equaliser before half time when Grant Holt nodded home from Junior Agogo's cross from the by-line. The second half was a calmer affair with the two sides beginning to cancel each other out. There were still chances at both ends, but it ended 2-2 with Forest a man down after Holt's sending off for a second bookable offence. Only 7 years, but how much has changed since?!
I think it's safe to say that back then we wouldn't have expected to be in the bloody awful mess that we're in now! We had real potential, but it all went to ****. Thanks Nick, you total cock.
29th september (4 weeks time) is the 5 year anniversary of when we beat Southampton 3-2 away and went 3rd in League 1. Southampton were bottom on -1 points following entering administration. Less than 5 years later, Southampton are in the prem and finished 8th last season while we got relegated from from League 2. Oh well, just have to get on with it.
I remember both of them games very well. Grant holt what a cock! is all I shal say about that game. Andy williams 94th minute goal! still my most favourite away game ever and to think my best mate missed the coach From the first minurte to the last we sang our hearts out then it followed outside into the car park and then had a sing song on the coach all the way home, god what I would give to have those days back!
I think that was the last time I saw us win a game !! Seems like a bloody lifetime ago. Hell of a game though.
When gradel got sent off for attacking Jones? And we still managed to lose? I liked Elland road as it was a nice day out but I thought your atmosphere didn't live up to its reputation and your chants just got boring. I remember getting off the train that day and being warned by the old bill there were 20 odd Leeds lad looking for trouble. So instead of moving these chaps along they just warned us thanks for that, chocolate tea pot springs to mind!
