Thing is I bet we will....think of all the tourists....they will lap it up and take it back with them. MAF can do what he wants at the end of the day - he owns it, no brainer buts its the effect on some of us. Am I really that bothered? No. I just think its madness. Do you see this at any other ground? Eh no. The best T-shirt in my opinion was when they first put of the J.Haynes statue up, at the time they were offering a white T of the statue itself and at the bottom it simply called the Maestro's Statue....do you see that in the club shop - no chance. I'm glad I got one.
I think MAF originally had it made for Harrods, but obviously sold the store. With the millions of fanatical Michael Jackson fans all over the world I think it's a good marketing ploy by the Chairman to merchandise these unique items. I've had friends in the States and Europe already wanting me to get them some MJ stuff. OK it might not be football related, but if it benefits the club, then I'm all for it. I think that people get upset because of the association to the innuendo that the media in this country perpetrate over Micheal Jackson. Where as in a lot of countries they only recognise his music, entertainment and charity.
Super Brian, I can see that a lot of people are objecting because of the allegations against Jackson. I don't feel I'm in any position to judge whether there was anything in them or not, and they are nothing to do with my feelings on this. It's simply that he has virtually nothing to do with our football club. There would be more legitimacy in the club shop stocking old Minder videos because Terry McCann mentioned going to watch Fulham in one episode. Admittedly, the Jacko stuff is probably a more lucrative line for us to offer.
Let's add a few more to up the sales, Captain. Alf Garnett in Till Death Do us Part when he referred us 'Johnny Haynes and the seven dwarfs' (for the youngsters Alf was a West Ham fan). Or Citizen Wolfie Smith who protested devotion to the club in the Tooting Popular Front. Or the mentions in Dennis Potter's TV dramas like the Singing Detective. And there's always Liz Hurley.
Come on CM, OK we went up one division, but i say this hopefully without contradiction that,if MAF had not poured his millions into this club we would probably not be watching premiership football over the last 10 seasons. Incidently check with FFC and as they stated, tours and lunches have increased in the last 6mths by 10/12% Some of it i was told by MJ fans, while I am not over the moon with the statue,it certainly not getting under my skin. My visits to the Cottage is solely to watch Premiership football.
Er, I think I have already said that we wouldn't be where we are without Al Fayed and that we have a lot to thank him for. The Jacko stuff possibly will earn us a lot of money, but it doesn't seem very Fulhamish.
Let's not forget Mr Benn! Ray Brooks (the voice of Mr Benn - kids, ask your Dad) was a season ticket holder (and may still be for all I know). Daniel Radcliffe is apparently a Fulham fan, so we should sell Harry Potter stuff - now that is a license to print money. We could stock Lily Allen cds as well, as well as Hugh Grant films. Does anyone else remember when Hugh Grant - pre 4 weddings - was first starting to get acting work, and he invested some of his new-found 'wealth' by sponsoring Jim Stannard's kit? It made me chuckle when people were accusing him of band-wagon jumping with our Europa League run.
