After we (surprisingly) turned down £2.5 Million from Crystal Palace for Left Back Tyrone Mings, Mick has stated that he will be offered a new contract! This obviously makes sense as he is obviously highly rated but crucially he is no way the finished article! Were we right to reject a big money offer for a relative rookie or will his form go down hill once he secures a bigger contract? Its one hell of a gamble!
I must say that I have grudging admiration (through gritted teeth) for Evans in his ruthless ability to play hard ball!
The thing is we have moaned in the past for letting players go far to cheap (myself included) and now some are moaning because we in some peoples opinion are over valuing our players. Mings IMO is not worth a million let alone more but I'm not a football manager, if we are going to start getting tough and standing our ground I'm all for it, unlike letting Alexander go for next to nothing because it was the team he supports nice one magilton.
I am amazed we've turned down a bid of anything like the figures reported for someone so raw. Mings could either become an established premiership defender, or he could join my Sunday league side and potentially be sub in a few years time. He's absolutely in no way shape or form premier league and I often think he's an absolute liability for us. He LOVES letting the ball bounce and defensively at times he's beyond shocking.
I think that the turned down bids and new contract could be a good thing for Mings as I think he has all the attributes to be a good player but I think he lacks confidence and could still be thinking that he is out of his depth but obviously MM sees something and so it appears do palace so he might now feel his status is deserved and play with more conviction.
