Gaston has been a monumental flop, perhaps not his fault maybe we just never played a system or had a manager that suited him. I wish him well and hope he gets a run of 10-15 games to see if he can cut it at this level.
I think "monumental flop" is very, very harsh and should be reserved for the likes of Forren and Osvaldo. Certainly he's not perhaps lived up to, or had a chance to live up to, our expectations, but monumental flop? No.
But he has been a flop of... massive (?)... proportions. 12 million fee, 6 million in wages, whatever else for signing-on fee and agent etc. Probably about a cool 20 million, and for what? If that's reasonable value, then Steven Davis is worth about 60 million.
I will be pretty annoyed If he keeps hull up at our expense 😤! Shame though. One bit of bad news from yesterday...
I know Gaston is a bit injury prone, but we mustn't forget the massive injury he had early in his career at Saints. That kept him out for a long time and stopped him having the team built round him. By the time he was back, the rest of the team had stepped up. He just never found his place in the team. The money was massive for us then, but is looking more normal now when you consider what we are willing to pay.
I would be very surprised if we let Gaston go oop north to a place like Hull without any kind of fee/insurance, would have thought £2 million was probably about a fair price, but if we managed to get an extra million, then happy days.
I have been in Hull today. I met with season ticket holders and asked them to look after Gaston carefully. He also told me that Long will bust his balls for the team and a good player who just doesn't score enough goals. Well, we have Morgoal Schneiderlin, so that is ok.
I just thought: anyone who said 2 years ago that Gaston will be in Europe in 2 years time...you were right!
Good old Gaston, still dividing opinion. Wasn't he finally starting to show a bit of form last season when he picked up a truly horrible injury at the Stadium of ****e? Or did I dream all that?
Gaston may not want a permanent move to Hull. In fact, I would be surprised if he did. A good season there could get him a nice move (assuming we don't take him back).
Maybe Gaston has been sent there to toughen him up ready for next season with us? Think of it as Military camp!
Always showed he was a player with great technical ability. But Adkins and MP couldn't get the best out of him, RK must feel he can't either. Feel Gaston would flourish outside the PL, Hull move for him has certainly puzzled me.
Unfortunately I think we have seen the last of Gaston. He'll have a year left on his contract at the end of this season so I expect we will be trying to cash in at the end of the year. Either that or we'll have to offer him a new contract, I doubt we'll risk that unless he has an amazing season at Hull, in any case I doubt he'd want to sign it anyway.
