We can sign free agents after the deadline; wonder if there are any floating around that could do a job as backup. On WATRBS they mention a guy called 'Jonas' who's just been released by Valencia David N'gog anyone..? /Peter Lovenkrands [tbh I'd take either of them over SWP in the 25 man squad]
In the PL there are no signings allowed now until January except for the following: 1) Players that were free agents when the transfer window closed. 2) Goalkeepers on emergency loans if you are left with only 1 fit goalkeeper for selection (as you know from Putnins last time you have to recall any young goalkeeper you have loaned out first). If you only have 1 keeper because the other is suspended you can't bring one in. 3) Outfield players on emergency loan if you are left with less than either 13 or 14 fit for selection. (again suspended players count as available) From players that you've loaned out (unless the alternative is you need to make an emergency loan signing yourself) you can recall players that are on 1/2/3 month loans anytime after 28 days on loan. Anyone you've loaned out until either January or the end of the season cannot be recalled o play for your first team until January. (you can recall them and play them in the reserves if for example it's a kid who's not getting games at his loan club)
Here is a few more choices Ivan Klasnic , Nicholas Anelka , El Hadj Diouf -might even be able to get Ched Evans or Marlon King if we are THAT desparate
No need for the negativity lads. They tried for a reasonable striker and balked at the £90k per week wage demand. That might have ruined the dressing room if they had said yes. That would be more disastrous potentially. It seems to me that the plan is to hang in (or better) until January and then Defoe comes. Of course if anyone knows of an unattached 20 goal per season striker that we can sign anytime we want, do speak up. I'm sure Harry will be delighted to hear from you. This window we have started to build a very decent PL side with a reasonable chance of survival. I agree another proven striker would have been fantastic it all takes time. The 'we should have planned earlier re Remy' does not wash because the various factors were too complex and clubs and players play the dastardly deadline day game too much for decent planning. I think these signings will keep the Harry detractors quiet for a while.
This. Been scratching my head all morning (aussie time). Reckon we've had as good a window as we could have expected. Shows good intent with a couple more experienced players to add weight to our campaign. Hull look like they've done better but time will tell. Will they gel? I'm sure they might, which begs the question, why have we struggled to get players up to speed in Hoops? I am far more positive that I was after the Tottenham debacle; the Burton game was sadly no great surprise but we have good players, a proven manager and a support team that should be able to convert us into a mid table EPL side.
I think the whole Remy outcome was a surprise for everyone. Three days before window closing and all the top four had either signed their strikers or turned their nose up at Remy. Injuries and Torres loan turned it on its head. I think we did have irons in the fire (Iceman, Deeney etc) but pulled back once Remy was staying; both those signed new contracts and left the market. So was worst scenario for us. Good we didn't capitulate for Borini though. Just a situation we'll have to manage for three months and see where we are for January window.
Did you just say "Just a situation we'll have to manage for three months and see where we are for January window." Well let's hope it works out. Whatever happened to the idea of 2 to 3 choices for each position in the starting eleven? We seem to have 9-10 for the midfield positions.
I think Defoe is still Harry's preferred option. Maybe he thinks we can muddle through until the end of the Canadian season when Defoe might become available.
But with some who can (and hopefully will) score too. We nearly saw it with Fer on his debut and we've seen it previously with - dare I say his name?.... You know who!! Sandro looks like he can hit a ball pretty hard too.
We have been linked with quite a few strikers over the last few weeks from Borini to Hooper (again), Ayew to Sigþórsson. We signed Vargas. For whatever reason we didn't sign any of the others. Borini we know was asking for silly money and wouldn't back down. But we could have had him ... and then watched the threads on this site tearing HR and TF to pieces for being stupid and naive for paying too much. Remy looked to be staying at the end of last week but the injury to Giroud and the loaning out of Torres changed all that. There were lesser strikers out there for sale or loan, but we have gone that route with Mr Magoo and Mrs Doyle. Signing someone like that would have been stupid. I would rather play 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 than play the formation 4-4-1½.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Should be put on the same life raft as Will Keane and cast adrift in mid Atlantic with lolly sticks as oars.
Wasn't talking about wooden ones. I meant the really thin plastic one from Chupa Chups lollies. To much purchase from wooden ice lolly ones. Gotta make sure they stay there.
