How can you tell that Vettel is driving the best when the car is so dominant? It might be a driver from one of the worst performing cars.

I think they judge it from the aero results and reliability across the season. They are looking strong in both areas.

Bernie has to say something on that matter:

    http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/7010029/Bernie-Vettel-dominance-not-boring

    ------
"Sebastian is the best right now and that's why he is dominating, and that's what makes it so interesting for the fans, because every race weekend starts with a big question mark - who will be able to beat Vettel? That's why fans tune in."

The F1 supremo went on say that he sees Vettel's dominance as being an even more impressive feat than that achieved by Schumacher during the mid 1990's to the mid 2000's.

"The competition Sebastian is facing is much bigger than that confronted by Michael," explained the Briton.

Especially on the high speed corners where the flexible front wing starts giving the car extra downforce.

I consider Vettel one of the best 3 in F1 (not including Kubica) and he is doing a brilliant job this year but to say he is driving the best is a little naive to say the least - especially when he is doing it from a dominant car, I agree with Basil a driver from the midfield or the backmarkers could be doing the best driving, they merely aren't focused on as much.

Maybe Kobayashi is driving the best, 7 out of 8 point scoring finishes and also has a 100% finish record

Lots of people fall into the easy trap of saying the guy with the best car is doing the best driving every year, F1 is also a team sport.

Well McLaren and Ferrari look to have copied it so it can't be an advantage as much compared to last year ;)

erm, McLaren have a downforce inducing flexi-wing?? where did you get that from?

I can't link it at the moment because I'm on the iPad and I don't know how, but scarbs noticed it on a video feed showing the front wing, was flexing by 5mm.

Hold your finger on the URL and it'll highlight and ask if you want to Copy. Then in your post hold your finger down and it'll ask if you want to Paste.

I'd imagine you know better than anyone else on here. Wouldn't it be similar to the f-duct thing last year? Everyone copied it, but no-one got the same benefit from it as the McLarens who had designed it into their car?

Also in Valencia the Red Bull were only a tiny bit faster in sectors 1 and 2, but the real difference between them and the rest was in sector 3; the sector that contains the real high speed corners that allows their flexible front wing to really start working. If, as you say, the other cars have copied the Red Bull, then surely the Red Bull would not be so much faster through sector 3.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought nobody had really copied Red Bull's flexi wing? Ferrari's front wing has got a bit of flex in it but not to the level of the RB, and Mclaren certainly do not, although they did bring a new front wing to Valencia that seemed to move a bit but that was not in the same manner as the RB to increase downforce but instead to help stall the front wing on the straights for more straight line speed.

    but fair IMO.

Manny would be having a fit though, if he hadn't had one already.

Vettel is a bit too laidback for my liking, maybe not a bad thing for some people but maybe if he was a bit more fired up he would be even better? Schumi was good at intimidating people even though it's a bit comedic when he tries it these days!
