Arsenal save us from being underwhelmed by welbeck?

weird signing for them...runs around and works hard but not a 20 goal a season striker (in all competition) like Giroud has been for the past 2 seasons.

Glad Holtby is going to get games, no idea what to make of Fryers as I never saw him play, same is true of Coulibaly, Obika and Gomelt.

We got a DM which we needed to.

Will be sad to see Sandro go but if he is not getting games it is for the best for him and us (transfer money in and wages off the bills) ... am hoping BAE goes as I like him and would hate him to just rot away his final few years of football.

Am surprised that neither Lennon or Townsend has gone as I thought that at least one would be gone.

A striker would be good but think it will end up being a panic buy or loan at this point (campbell or rasiak anyone?) <yikes>

Was probably just an enquiry - I did see it mentioned as you did but haven't heard any more.

This has been a disappointing deadline day for sure.

Well it looks like I'm going to be annoyed at 11pm

There was a rumour that Saints came back and offered us 15m for him.

If I wasn't at work, I'd have hopped in the car and driven him down to Southampton myself

Why was Holtby so popular? He hardly did anything note worthy on the pitch. For me he flattered to deceive and imo he's no great loss.

    Personality off the pitch?

  7. Can't say I've been impressed by Holtby. I'm still not sure what position he's supposed to play! He came with so much adulation and promise that it's hard not to feel let down by him, however unfair that may be on the lad.

Still, a loan to Hamburg - provided he gets the games under his belt - might unlock his potential. Let's see.

He has had chances but not been up to the standard, but yes, others also aren't up to the standard, yet should we stockpile midfielders who aren't good enough?.... yet look at Bentaleb, he gets his chance and takes it. No excuses. Holtby should do fine in the german league where it suits his game and not every player is suited to premier league football but I'm sure you will remember all the great premier league games Holtby played for us.

    Just to stoke the fire:

If Sandro and Fryers transfers are confirmed then we'll be net profit again this window

I heard a rumour David Pleat recommended him to Levy.

That would explain a lot about why we signed him.

  12. Ignoring the sarcasm, it's debatable whether Bentaleb has actually proven himself yet - despite having been given a consistent run of games to do so. Only difference so far is that Holtby has actually found the net a few times.

    Bentaleb is Livermore 2.0

A new version, with improvements but still plenty of the same characteristics (good and bad) as the original

    Apparently Pleat also recommended Baldini.

Benty is the main man . Our last 2 managers can see something that we lesser mortals can
Not see. Have faith as Greek George said when he was caught having one up kyber .

I think Bentaleb has performed really well against all sides except the top 4. Was awful against Arsenal in the FA Cup, City at home, Chelsea at the Bridge and Liverpool at Anfield. Maybe lets the occasion get to him? He's got the ability to be a really good player and as I said, bar the top 4 sides has been really good in my opinion but maybe he needs to smoke a joint before a big game to keep him relaxed.

    No Musacchio
    No Schneiderlein
    No Rodriguez
None of Poch's supposed main targets

Why do we bother going for ambitious managers and then continually fail to back them in the transfer market?

You could say that about virtually all of the squad. Eriksen was crap against Liverpool this year and last. Never showed up in the north London derby. didn't do anything against Chelsea and awful against man city. But he performed really well against the lesser sides.

The only player who has performed fairly well against the top four is Lloris, as thats because our goal has been used as shooting practice so law of averages is that he will make decent saves if the ball is flying towards him often.
