OK... didn't get too much interest in Mafia from my suggestion on the pub thread- but figured I'd place it out here, so if we can get 10 or more people sign up next two days. If we have 10 or more people by end of day Tueday I'll start up a game. Since it is international break time, give us something to pass the time away. What is Mafia (sometimes Vampire or other title): Basically, if you're familiar with wink-murders, it's sorta like that. Basically 1 or more people are randomly and secretly assigned roles as mafia. There is a day cycle and a night cycle. (Day on here I'll make 48hr periods, night will just be 10 mins or so- no posting during night cycle). During the day cycle, the non mafia try to guess (by voting) who the mafia are. Person with the most votes is killed (out the game) and it is revealed if they are mafia or innocent. Before the night cycle, the mafia agree who to kill- and then when the night cycle starts that player is assassinated. Game ends when it is no longer possible for Mafia or innocents to win. Wikipedia has a lot of information. Easiest way is to play... by first couple of rounds you'll have it figured out. Strategy tips: 1) Watch for people changing their votes late on to change who is elected to get killed (or people who leave it until late to vote). Mafia know who their fellow Mafia members are and will try to force the vote onto an innocent. 2) Watch for people that skim over other peoples comments. Mafia because they already know who is mafia and who is not will pay less attention looking for clues. 3) Watch for people who have a pattern of teaming up in their votes. 4) Other than that- watch people's comments. People tend to give themselves away in their justifications for voting for other people if they're guilty. Also, people who don't make many comments are sometimes guilty because they're trying to NOT give themselves away.
It works. I've been involved in Mafia games before on forums! There are online forums dedicated just to playing mafia... The first few rounds are a little random because you don't have anything to go on... as such the first few rounds are a little slow. IS the OK an in- or just an "OK, you're nuts..."
Im in if theres still a place ... but I aint saying nothing. I work in waste disposal and thats it. Oh and I own a titty bar as all good waste disposal guys do
Can't have too many people. Works better the more you have (although games last longer more you have). 10 is really the minimum number needed though.

Round One is always a bit of a guesswork. Afterwards you can look at who is voting where to see if they might be coordinating to block people off. Frequently people who change votes near the end of the window or leave it to last minute to vote could be looked at as suspicious (might be Mafia trying to save one of their own number). Depending on how many people sign up- there are additional "helper" abilities that can be assigned non Mafia. Such as "Detective" can investigate one player each night and be told that person's role. Of course, announcing that you're the detective is bound to get the Mafia to off you the next night cycle... Also anyone can claim to be the detective... even a mafia member.
