The only good thing about the Ashley regime is that NUFC have ceased to be a retirement home for formerly decent players wanting to see out their golden years using our gold. He might score a few (or might not - - he is getting on) but he would not be a positive signing.

Massively disagree, tomph has it right <ok>

Defoe's still got pace, power and a brilliant finishing record. I'm not sure what Toronto can afford to spend on wages like, but I'd imagine they won't be too much more than what we offer players, and I think there could be a mutually beneficial deal to be done.

I've seen Richards has f***ed off to Fiorentina, so I've had a go at cwarr for saying, just the other day, that even odds on us signing Richards was like free money. What a dozy pillock.

Also, Falcao to Man Utd? Does he play CB or CM?

Regardless of his merits, signing Defoe seems greatly unlikely considering MA's stance on buying older players.

Lee Ryder has also just refuted the rumour for whatever that is worth.

#nufc aren't in for Defoe of @torontofc

I know. Hoping for a reasonable amount of football logic to be applied to NUFC transfers, rather than just monetary... I must be daft.

Speaking of daft, Phil McNulty has NUFC trying to sign Matija Nastasic. Seems really plausible.

I'd be happy with Nastasic. Him and Lascelles could be centre back pairing for the next 10 years.

Yeah I'm not expecting anything. Feel like a voyeur at a dogging site <wah>

I think we all feel that way mate. We know what is needed but we know we won't see it. Mbiwa off and I can't blame him in the slightest. Champions League with Roma or a mid table/relegation fight with that idiot Pardew at the helm. I know what I would pick. We probably won't be replacing him either. It's ok though because we have Saylor waiting in the wings. Thank Christ for that, eh?

It boggles the mind, it really ****ing does.

Ben Arfa targeted with Momo now expected to leave. Time against us however, we hope to agree loan with view to buy #whufc

<laugh> Glad I don't have to go to games now! I know there's a vocal section who think he's ****e and we might as well get rid, but the atmosphere in the ground is going to be ****ing poisonous if Ben Arfa leaves and we don't sign 2-3 top quality players. No marks from France won't cut it.

In my opinion gents, this season's looking like a right ****ter.

He used to have all those attributes.

He managed one goal in 14 appearances for Spurs in 2013 - 2014 and then spent the summer scoring very well in a league of about League 1 quality. 1 in 14 makes Shola look prolific. Presumably he won't be as good this year as he was last year.

Yeah you can stop distorting the facts... 14 appearances, mostly as like an 80th minute sub. He scored goals in the league cup and Europe when he was actually given starts <ok>

Doesn't the fact that he could only get a game as an 80th minute substitute indicate anything to you ?

And yes, in cup competitions, generally involving teams from much lower leagues, he did well. In Toronto, against opposition from a much lower league, he does well.

He has no recent history of being able to start for or score against Premiership teams. He is at the end of his shelf life and is the type of player (one who relies very heavily on his pace) who tends to age badly.
