I put this on the Beppe has gone thread. Some reasons why the Watford Observer keyboard warriors will object: Filipo Inzaghi – only coached Italian youths. Roberto di Matteo – not coached at this level for very long, winning the championship is irrelevant. Oscar GarcÃa – failed at Brighton, they were not promoted. Tony Pulis – managed Stoke City Malky Mackay – been out of football too long, Cardiff is in Wales and they play rugby, and he has other problems. Brendan Rodgers – too much integrity. Tim Sherwood – did not last long enough at Tottenham Hotspur. Patrick Kluivert – He is from Holland. I am pleased Neil Warnock and Ian Holloway were not available.
Glorious day for the start of the month here. Just love it when I see the bread coming out of the baker's oven and get a blast of the aroma.
Lovely starlight night here. Was able to discuss the village gossip with my next door neighbour when he invited us round for a few drinks. Seems he is related to a Burgandy wine grower who produces one of the Grand Cru bottles from the region and had some for my delight. It is only when you get to taste some that I could not afford to buy very often, that you realise just what you are missing. Think we may ask him to dinner if he brings the wine.

Morning all from a bright and cloudless rural France. Woken by the road repair gang out looking for any holes that need patching. They come round about twice a year trying to stop the rain water getting below the surface. Any major repairs are marked by orange paint, but this gang of three just use their eyes to sort the small potholes etc. This transfer day deadline seems strange to me. Why have players go through a pre-season only to be shipped out to a team that may have a different method of playing? Why have an artificial date set to stop transfers after, unless you find ways around it with loans? Either have no prescribed times at all, which would stop the frenzy or say that no transfers take place after the season starts. I would not wish to go back to the days when there used to be an annual contract and players had little say in what happened to them, but the current system just seems to drive up prices as teams fall over each other to get new players in.
