Most victims of abuse, especially child abuse, probably aren't going to want to plaster the details all over social media and those that do will largely be viewed as nutcases when they're posting about celebrities or politicians. You'd hope that the policing of any accusations would be far better, but that has yet to be demonstrated, in my opinion.
Maybe not. I still think that it would come out one way or another nowadays. Young girls, especially, tend to talk to their mates. All it needs is one of them to put something on Twatter, or wherever, and the 'sleb's' dirty little secret is out there.
That was true in the past, though. Savile's behaviour was an open secret and there have been rumours about virtually any and every celebrity doing something or other. The more litigious amongst them are happy to throw around gagging orders to the press now too, though that carries the risk of the Streisand Effect kicking in.
Going back to the IS question, I read that a Fatwa has been issued against the British IS fighters by an Iman and endorsed by senior Muslim clerics. Not before time!!
British Muslim clerics issuing an edict about that lot is hardly going to have any effect. For the same religion, this is one mans' act/belief of faith against another. Only when they meet their maker will they know who was right.
It seems to be a religious version of putting a contract out on someone (there's probably more to it). The most famous one (to us) was Salmon Rushdie.
A fatwa is just a proclamation or edict. What does it say about those who behave contrary to it (specifically their punishment/treatment by Islamic society) ??
It is also taken very seriously by "real" Muslims. It died only when the person, or people it was issued against die. They are generally not issued lightly. Any English Muslims who are genuinely religiously motivated to join IS, will take heed.
Personally I am a unionist and I believe the current yk are stronger together as one nation. However if the people of Scotland choose to vote for independance I will respect there wishes as long as the decision is based on what they believe is best for Scotland and nothing to do with being anti English
Again, what is the price for transgression for these Brit ISIS 18-30s ?? The Rushdie fatwa was clear. He was deemed to have blasphemed against Islam, and that any Muslim who subsequently killed him was absolved from the act of murder. Are Muslims who know of these people, but do not ostracise them etc going to get the heat on their arses turned up to gas mark 10 in the afterlife ??
I'm no Muslim cleric mate, so I've no idea. But again, those who are GENUINELY religiously motivated will take great heed.
"But again, those who are GENUINELY religiously motivated will take great heed." You mean religiously observant Muslims (in the UK) . The Brit ISIS 18-30s are corrrespondingly also very religiously motivated (ie Jihad) .
They claim to be religiously motivated. Yes, well as far as I understand it, the Fatwa, issued by the Iman is telling them that their Jihad is not a just one.
As I said, unless the edict says the ISIS mob are booked in for eternal damnation due to their antics, and similarly for those who knowingly aid and abet them, then IMHO there is nothing doing with this fatwa other than a bit of good PR with the West.
We will see. Again, as far as I understand it, these are not issued lightly. They are generally taken very seriously by the majority of Muslims. If we have any Muslim posters who wish to add anything, please do. I am merely stating the current situation as I see it.
"It does. It explicitly states that joining or supporting ISIS is haram." Then it comes down to a 'my Imams (non) fatwa is bigger than yours' . In the Islamic world, which nations' fatwa carry the greater respect/fear ??
I think you're trying to split hairs. A fatwa is only issued, and supported by senior Muslim clerics. They are not retractable, therefore not issued lightly.
"I think you're trying to split hairs." Not at all. There are fundamental sectarian differences in Islam. For example, what would/do Shia Muslims think of fatwa when they are issued by Imam in fundamentally Sunni regimes (and vice-versa) ?? Which is a convenient means for one side to ignore the edicts of another. If ISIS were a Christian mob comprising predominantly Protestants, then I doubt they would ponder too long any edict by a Pope stating all such combatants must cease and desist or be ex-communicated by the Catholic church.
