Toby Alderweireld Deal

Either he comes with the option to buy next summer or he's not worth a damn to us. We need to have people in place to take over from Brown and O'Shea, 2015.

 

We need cover now though

 

He's not cover mate. He walks into our team as first choice centre back.

 

Whether he comes as cover or first choice, what's the point? We have Brown, O'shea, Vergini, and (possibly) Roberge for this season. I'd take van Dijk because he's cover for this season and he'll be here next summer when we hit the real problem. But a short term loan is just an extra wage to pay and doesn't meet our real needs.

 

Can't believe people would be happy with Roberge, yes he very neat footballer but he gets turned inside out every time he plays. We lack pace too. A new CB is imperative for me like and please let him have a bit of pace so our wing backs gain a licence to attack freely.

 

I agree some youth and pace is needed for the season ahead.

 

In place of who? Our captain? Or a brilliant defender in Wes Brown? Can't see it..

 

Bring a better player in and either/both of them are vulnerable mate. I'd happily have O'Shea out but I'm not Poyet so I don't know what he's thinking.

Would be ridiculous to have him on the bench.

 

He's head and shoulders above both mate, and there is no sentiment.

I fancy it would be JOS drops out, armband on the pitch to Catts.

 

We've picked lesser players out of loyalty for far too long. If he's better then play him I say.

 

I've never seen him play so I can't comment, but if he's as good as you two are saying, then he will be brought into start. Probably at the expense of JOS with the Catts taking over the captaincy.

Obviously this deal isn't nailed on, but there is definitely gonna be at least 1 cb joining, interesting to see if JOS will drop out

 

JOS is captain, and a good captain, he's played very well recently too, but the facts are Wes is a better defender, and a better footballer.

Wes & new boy (whoever..) seems likely, JOS will retain club captaincy but Catts will have the band.

Catts should have the band, regardless, but JOS is a good captain I feel.

 

I haven't seen anybody who is 'head and shoulders above' Wes Brown in the last year. He isn't getting any younger but short term i don't think there's any intention to replace him in the team
