Probably for the same reason that they use Gollom, they haven't got a fooking clue!

I thought he gave the ball away for the first goal. At other times he could be good though, I remember a long ball sticking to him like glue which was surprising. His effort was there as usual, he's a hustler but a predatory shooting threat is needed still.

Ok Huddlestone and Davies admit to being bad, but they picked the wrong game for that, points were available in this one.

He did, but there were still plenty of chances to stop the goal being scored, shame our defenders appeared to think otherwise!

I thought if the original attempt was on target - which it was - then it wouldn't go down as an own goal?

I thought he was. Admittedly dropped a bollock for their second but he was good.

That midfielder coming in from aboard, is it Andrés Iniesta, by any chance?

Just seen a pic of Mcshane on a match report and he's the double of Hank Scorpio off the Simpsons. Cheered me up a bit

Other than majorly being at fault for, at least, one of the goals, every time he was asked to distribute the ball he fooking hoofed it and handed possession straight back to Villa.

You call that being one of the best players?!

Can't believe some of the complete overreactions from some of you. Almost as bad as those buffoons on the Facebook group.

Just got in from the game, and apart from one or two bad performances, we played fine today. Those two players apologised on twitter pretty much and we dust down and move on. We ended the game by far the stronger and we will be stronger overall for it.

Just got back. Felt like a long drive home. The first half was the worst I'd seen us play for a long time. Too many of our key players, such as Huddlestone and Davies, had shockers. The ball was like a bar of soap near them and possession was gifted away far too easily. Guzan was a spectator all first half and we never looked like testing him. I said yesterday that Villa are no great shakes, but they smelt blood and were capitalising on our sloppiness. We made them look better than they were and I don't mean to take anything away from their performance. The ball was constantly hoofed to Jela who had no one near him for support. We lost possession and Villa attacked quickly.

As the 2nd half wore on we improved and I felt we ended the game strongly but we left it too late. Rosenior and Brady helped to improve our play and Aluko added some threat. We could have nicked it in the last 10 minutes but it would have been a point we barely deserved. I'd rather us have not got a point as it might shake some players up to return to their normal standards. Good to see Davies and Thudd hold their hands up and admit it wasn't good enough and there was no hiding behind excuses.

It was really worrying to see us go so long without troubling Guzan. Away at Chelsea or Liverpool you might expect it but not against a team you are about level with on quality. Jela tried to make things happen but he needs someone to pay off from his hold up play. Everything we put forward was routinely cleared by Vlaar and co and it was frustrating to see us not put them under pressure. Hernandez and another new striker are a must for us plus a midfielder. We have the foundations of a good squad and today did not do us justice, but we need to address our lack of attacking threat. I trust Bruce to get the right deals done.

As for the season ahead, it's early days but it's vital we don't get to despondent. Everyone is right to criticise the performance but we have made a reasonable start to the league season and have some winnable games coming up over the next 4 weeks, with the exception of Citeh. The sign of a good team is how they react to a poor performance. Hopefully we'll see a response against WHU.

Match of the Day picked up on what was happening but instead of bashing Jelavic like Peter Swan they pointed out the ball was being hoofed to him without him getting any help in a very predictable way. David Burns just let Swan spout his crap about Jelavic without any challenge, I really think local commentary would be improved so much if they could find anybody to replace these clowns.

They had David Hockaday for the Swansea and Cardiff games last season. He maybe a crap manager, but he was breath of fresh air.
