I remember being excited when we signed Wilf Rostron. Now some people seem unimpressed to be signing an international who went to Brazil and was in the squad that went to the final. He's well known to Poyet and he'll be an improvement on previous squad members like Murphy & McClean. I'm happy to have him.
Wilf Rostron...now there's a name from the past. Over the years we have signed some shoite haven't we
10:58 Sky Sports understands that Sunderland are close to signing Inter Milan midfielder Ricky Alvarez on a season-long loan deal. It is thought that a deal could be completed today as Gus Poyet continues to bolster his ranks.
After problems agreeing personal terms, it’s now reported Ricky Alvarez will complete his move to Sunderland. Last night Tuttomercatoweb claimed Alvarez was finding it difficult to agree personal terms with the Black Cats. However, today Sky Sport Italia insist a deal has been struck, he underwent a medical very late last night and will be formally announced this afternoon. It is claimed his medical lasted from 10pm to 3am, then he signed the contract at 7am. Argentina international creative midfielder Alvarez arrives on a one-season loan for €1m. There is an option to buy at the end of the season for a further €11m, taking the total up to €12m (£10m). That option reportedly becomes mandatory if Sunderland avoid relegation.
What would happen if we stop up but he suffers a career threatening injury with a few games to go?? We could dump him back on their doorstep, ring the bell then run away, surely?
The important word is option. If we avoid relegation and we want to buy, we can enforce the sale. Could be wrong like but that`s the way I read it.
Good point 1 in 6 from cm aint bad, world cup runner up http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricardo_Gabriel_%C3%81lvarez
The option becomes mandatory ie they have to give us the option to buy. Not we do have to buy whatever.
This is an exciting signing for me, I've not seen much of him to be honest but from what I can gather he's a bit like a bigger (6'2"), stronger and younger version of Giaccherini. I've read an analysis piece on him where the writer compared him favourably to Pirlo, in case that's of interest to anyone in particular around here...
