Today's match was the first for a while where I was comfortable watching the team. lots of green shoots of recovery, but there's still a long way to go. Silvestri - may have been man of the match, but some of his handling is questionable. Doesn't seem to be able to catch/smother the ball. Distribution far better & getting some length into his kicking at last. Wooton - had a great game. Solid, willing worker & great engine. Still believe that he has a future with us. Am believing more & more that Pearce has been the problem rather than the answer for some time now. Perhaps Lees, Zaliukas, Wooton etc. weren't the problem - they just had the misfortune to be playing with Pearce. Bellusci - I'm feeling man love here. Solid & dependable CB, & ultra cool with it. Never gets pressured. Bit of theatrics to entertain us today, apparently being shot by the opposition on a couple of occasions. Wonder if this is going to be a feature? Pearce - Fairly solid today, but has his moments. Is partial to the odd wild tackle on the edge of the box, and I've noticed that he seems to think he's playing basketball when someone runs at him in the box - arms outstreched for some crazy reason or other. A penalty waiting to happen. Warnock - had his best game of the season until he was injured. Put his hands up after the game to the goal 'shot' being a cross. Pace is definitely not there, but like Teddy Sherringham, he can think a yard ahead of most. Charlie Taylor came on for him with no disruption of service. Mowatt - I was a big critic of Mowatt last season, mainly about his fitness. He's come back 1 or 2 stones lighter this season, and boy, he is hungry! Did die a bit towards the end, but excellent engine & desire - especially in his first game of the season. His exclusion must be another major criticism of the Cock. Bianchi - imperious. Gary McAllister reborn. Covers acres, both on and off the ball. Passing delightful. Going to be a great favourite of ours, I think. Cook - my man of the match. Hope Austin & Murphy were watching the 17yo & learning. Another hero in the making. Sloth - what a find. Worked his socks off (where have I heard that before?). Heavily involved at all times. Seems to be the business. Replaced towards the end by Benedicic. Would love to say he was fantastic. Can't. Still waiting for his fist tackle. Wasn't really firing on all cylinders by the looks. May be a low starter we'll have to wait on. Antenucci - very intelligent striker. Great off the ball work to present options & make space. Great engine, closed down as part of a pack at every opportunity. Always dangerous. Sharp - Same as Antenucci. Still think they've got a bit of work to do on their understanding to be an outstanding partnership. Would be interested to hear if any attendees today thought differently.
Sounds like a very good review there WJ. sounds quite similar to the what the commentators were saying on the radio (I know you can't even come close to a judgement from listening) especially the first half but sounded like we struggled second. Also, I get the feeling that Antenucci and Sharp will be a striking partnership to be feared in 10 games or so once they are on the same wave length.
Jock has it about right. But make no mistake Bolton were very poor, the possession they did have, and they had a lot, tended to be very unthreatening. Until the last thirty seconds they didn't look like scoring. In the first half they were worse at closing down than us under Hockawankery. There will be much stiffer challenges but hopefully we can go and beat brum one the dog botherers. If we win those we will be where I expected us to be after 7 or 8 games. Some of the surprise package minnow clubs are going to start getting altitude sickness very soon now and begin their slide down the table. Expect us to be top 10 by the end of September.
Just about right there Jock,Benedicic the only dissapointment but maybe he needs a bit more time.Lots of quality out there and I think later in the season a few teams will get a hideing when it all comes together. Can see Bullusci becoming a legend but will leave the man love to you m8.
By the way anyone see the video of silvestri stopping the steward from getting hold of the guy that ran onto the pitch to thank him he will become an instant legend with stuff like that
Funny moment of the day,Jermain Beckford,Leeds fans singing Beckford Beckford give us a wave, and he couldn't help himself bringing boos from his own fans.and laughter from us.
All in the South stand noticed,he gave the guy a hug a good team spirit with the Imports showing lots of passion.
Morning all. 3pts against a poor Bolton team who gave us a hard time in the 2nd half. Slowly but surely its coming together. And a midfield of Mowatt & Cook looked and sounded solid. Austin will come back for Cook every so often because Cook is still only a child, & we'll wreck him if we try to play him every week. But I bet Murphy is now feeling a real prat & wondering when he's likely to get a game again. A week or two's rest now and closing the transfer window tomorrow should allow Redfearn time to work on the team and get them to mould into a unit. Think Smith will still be a good impact sub. But Sharp and Antenoucci seem a partnership in the making.
Fecking over zealous steward nearly got decked. Even lil **** baldy head steward was laughing and had let the guy climb back into ss. It was on the verge of kicking off because Of the lil hitler.
Beaten by when he put the shot wide and was met by chants of Leeds legend. Got bollocked from the dug out for giving us the thumbs up you mentioned.
Do you think Murphy would've played anyway? I don't, in fact even if hockaday was still here I don't think he would've played. Sloth was always gonna take his spot for Bolton
Apparently according to the commentators, and I don't remember this, but he started against us for Leicester a couple years back and Pearson decided to take him off at half time and after the game said that it was because he was too involved with the opposition fans
I agree and deservingly so, been shocking on the ball. I just wasn't sure whether cook was ready but by the sounds of things he clearly is
To be safe maybe, but realistically I think it actually depends on the player. There have been plenty of 17-18 year olds playing week in week out at professional level before. At least we have a lot options there though so that we actually do have the ability to bring him in gradually
Redders said that he used the kids because he knew what the kids were capable of, and nobody should have been surprised. That says that Hock and BMcD & Warnock failed to utilise them and relied on shyte. Byrams injury wasn't an injury he got through football, it was a genetic thing that football caused to inflame from time to time. It took the club and specialists a while to get to the bottom of it but now they know what it is they and Sam can manage it better as it'll never go away. Redders told us last season that Sam now knows what it is and now knows what he needs to adjust and change in his life to ensure he manages the condition correctly so that he can carry on playing. If the kids are firing on all cylinders and a better option for the team, then use them until they start to tire a few games in. By this time the more seasoned pro's will be champing at the bit to get a game and hold onto the shirt. Don't hide them and try and protect them otherwise you damage them
