Van Gaal has to drop Van Persie or Rooney because they just do not combine well together, they are better off playing Welbeck with one of them because at least he can stretch the defence and he combines well with either one of them better than they do with each other, plus the Ronaldo, Di Maria combination was devastating and it worked because of the pace of both men but how is Di Maria going to combine to such effect with Rooney or Van Persie when they have no pace whatsoever. Welbeck might be the key to unlocking the greatness that Di Maria can potentially produce for Utd.

He went with a back three of Evans, Jones and Blackett. If that isn't brave then I don't know what is! <ok>

the defence does bother me but not as much as a lack of chances being created, in all four games this season i am pretty sure utd has not had up to 10 total shots on target and once they start creating chances and putting them away, then the confidence will come back to the team as well as the defence, plus it will make a hell of a difference when shaw can take over from young and rafael can take over from valencia

    Fergie dropped Rooney for RVP.

But who would drop a guy earning £300k per week and captain of the team?

Rivaldo told Van Gaal in front of the whole team that he would not play on the wing again, Van Gaal just said ok and picked somebody else for that position, he was only complying with the players wishes <laugh>

Wasn't Welbeck linked to a loan deal at Spurs or is that someone else?

Yep and to Arsenal as well. He gets a raw deal from fans even though he's a very good footballer and has more to his game than he's given credit for. I would be gutted if he was sidelined by LVG. I would rather we sold/loaned out Hernandez.

I agree with the above; Welbeck is a talented player. Powerful, fast, strong in the air, good dribbler and comfortable running in behind defenders or playing with his back to goal. His only real shortcoming is his finishing. He misses too many easy chances, but quite often will stick the more difficult ones away.

Hernandez is almost his polar opposite; pretty average in most areas apart from goalscoring.

I think Welbeck and Di Maria on wings would be very exciting, both workhorses and pacey and direct. One of vanPersie, Rooney or Mata has to be sacrificed though.

Just rotate with any two of those three. Why the need to play all of them every game? None at all. And the one who doesn't start can be an option off the bench.

I would have suggested Januzaj on the wing, but he doesn't seem to be firing like last season at the moment.

I am worried about Adnan, the back end of last season he looked sulky and at the start of this one, however, he did look better today.

He looked spent towards the end of last season...to much reliance on him too soon. I thought the break would have done him good, but like you said he looks unhappy. Only positive is he's tracking back like a trojan, but that's besides the point.

Welbeck has an excellent first touch, he can dribble, can hold the ball with his strength and lay it off well, has great pace to pull teams apart, when he played as a striker he scored 6 in 6 so in my opinion should be retained. Hernandez i would liken to Ole, he never does much when he starts the game but when coming on for the last 20/30 mins is devastating as he has seen where the defensive weakness is, he should be retained also.

I just feel at the moment he thinks it should happen for him all the time, he needs someone to point out that not every tackle is a foul and the only person that can make it happen for him is him

It has always been United policy not to overplay youngsters. A while back there was an article about how playing too many games in late teens can cause severe damage to a player. I cant recall whether it was damage to bone structure, but it certainly didn't help playing week in week out in the prem. It certainly worked with the class of 92, and with Ronaldo

Maybe its the same philosophy for Adnan
