Good result. If you can avoid defeat away and beat your rivals at home you should stay up.

It's where we went wrong last season.

Firstly, good to be back after a little end of season break.

As for the match, I really don't mind LVG playing a different formation. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and wait to see how that defence works with the players he wants - Rojo and/or Blind.

What pisses me off is that:

    1) We STILL have players who clearly aren't good enough. Didn't the world and his wife agree this last season? Wasn't this supposed to be the "mother of all clearouts"? How suicidally depressing it is then to see Fletcher, Anderson, Valencia, Young who should be nowhere near our squad.

    2) Where are these midfielders we were supposed to be signing? The midfield general and the creative playmaker?????Di Maria for me had his best season in midfield for Real Madrid, but we have fck all in terms of quality on the wing so he's probably going to end up there. I will back LVG but I'm seriously pissed off he didn't even attempt to buy Fabregas.

    3) This is probably the worst thing about us at the moment and it has little to do with formation - it's the fact we are no longer a physical side. We get easily muscled off the ball. Our players are easily dispossessed by a simple foot in by an oppo player, and apart from perhaps Rooney, the rest go in with half-hearted attempts to win the ball. That was so clear today. The last 3 games have shown that the Swansea, MK Dons and Burnley players simply wanted it more.

Bit of a long rant but it's been a while :D

Disappointing result but I can see an improvement. I am more optimistic than after the Sunderland game.(not ****ing difficult !!)

I was really expecting a defeat. With new players coming in and everyone getting more used to the system, I think there is more to come. If we are near to the top 4 (within 6-7 points) after first 10 games I'll be happy.

Some fair points. But most will be addressed with more confidence about the system and therefore more urgency. Unlucky result, could easily have got 3 points but the ref bottled it. But a draw probably a fair result.

The Sunderland and Swansea matches were awful but this is better. <ok>

Still the defence looked suspect at times, but Evans Jones & Blackett did OK. Poor game from Mata, and in all fairness to Burnley, they gave Rooney & RVP scraps. Angel looked good considering it was his first game. We still have no one who can take a decent corner, but overall just an average performance.
At least we didn't concede a goal

I think Utd's main worry should be your defence. De Gea spared the blushes of Jones and Evans time and time again. Blackett looks a decent young prospect, but should he really be starting games? I'd say that your defensive options look average at best. If you'd signed Hummels, you'd look a far, far better outfit.

Yeh I feel the same, I think a new system takes time and I'm really not worried about it. Media will continue to make a big deal of it though. As for today, we became better when Welbeck came on for RVP. Until then, it was slow and disjointed causing us to play long again for most of the match. For me, RVP and Rooney aren't working together.

Also think Mata (and I bet Di Maria very soon) is getting a raw deal. He is a quality player but who has he got around him? We need a proper defensive midfielder, not Fletcher or Anderson. If there was one thing I would want right now more than anything, it would be for us to sign Vidal. Mata is never the quickest going forward, but it's not his fault he has no options around him who can actually do something with the ball. He needs decent wingers, not Young and Valencia. He needs someone to make runs off him (which he now has with Di Maria). Without this everything eventually ends up going long.

The back 3 is a new formation, and you're right about Blackett, but we have a fair few injuries. But imo it's the same problem as always, we need a better midfield to shield that defence. Especially with a raw back 3 like you said. The problem is that those 3 are being exposed far too much by players like Cleverly and Fletcher in front of them. They don't close players down, they can't tackle, and they give the ball away. How many times have the back 3 been fcked in the previous 3 games as a result of that more than anything.

Very true, Treble. Hummels and Vidal would have been brilliant signings. Vidal would have shielded the defence as you say. Are you still in for him? Vidal or Carvalho would fit like a glove.

Rumours today that Vidal is unlikely and if anything it's Carvalho instead of him. Sadly though I think Blind will be our final signing. While signings like Herrera, Shaw and Di Maria are decent enough, it's not enough. The only person United fans should be spitting feathers at is Woodward. He is an incompetent amateur and really needs to go.

If Matth gets the thread in first, it gives him an orgasm, but so does sneezing.

Which explains why in a 50 mile radius of Matths house, you cant buy any snuff

I don't think Vidal is an option because of his knee issue and the price of Carvalho is a little excessive for someone who has only just broken into the first team. I agree that the midfield is still lacking, but we also have a number of injuries that are hampering our progress and we were never going to get all of our options in one window to be fair. Oh and I actually believe that ADM is more than decent and quite a coup.

Good news is... your average result since signing Maria is three times as good as before.

Average 0.33 pts a game before Maria.
Average 1 pts a game with Maria.

Sign another Maria and you'll be getting 3pts a game.

    Undefeated with Maria too!

Jeez...this would have been unthinkable 2 seasons ago now some of you seem happy to have got a point at Burnley. Don't think SAF would have thought average against a newly promoted team is ok.

Shows how good the team was then <ok> No divine right to beat Burnley. United will need to get better from a low point. Not difficult to understand <ok>
