Well done. I hope he does well for the few years he is at Sunderland. If he does become a success I can see him being sold for a healthy profit. If he stays, he'll be a Club Legend.
Didn't say you was gloating. Good signing and he actually suits the club colours. Wonder what number he will be wearing and if how he will fit into the team? I suspect bench at least, slowly being intregated into the line-up as Gyan's strike partner.
Syd. Did Liverpool actually put in a firm bid or was their interest mere media speculation?Okay DC did watch him,but as far as I know no firm bid was ever tabled.Maybe DC and Kenny decided against it.The same can be said of Dmitri Payet,a media target whom has just joined Lille, there is also Gervinho amongst others. There is targets and media speculation targets. Some people can't distinguish between the two. However nobody knows who the targets actually are except Damien Comolli and Kenny Dalglish.
I think Sunderland wanted him more so were prepared to offer more. We didn't make a formal bid but they knew how much we were prepared to go to. No doubt we'll be criticised for not spending enough now.
Yeah! We never wanted him anyway ;-) it was all agent talk. Anyway we've already bought a big striker, from a good North East team, you might know of them, and maybe even secretly support them. No not Boro, the other one!
Just look at the other threads, too right. We're either spending too much on one player, spending too much on a team, or not buying enough players with the right quality. You can't win with some people.
According to SSN he spoke to Liverpool and turned them down (again Media Speculation so not certain) but SSN are normally pretty close with their reports and don't normally make stuff up
He never spoke to Liverpool.Again media speculation.Liverpool never made a formal bid and unless you make a formal bid thats accepted by the selling club, you cannot speak to an under contract player.Thats unless you are Alex Ferguson who has a tendency to ring players on their mobile ie Arjen Robben or invite them over to visit the training facilities ie Owen Hargreaves. How he hasn't been done for tapping up players is a joke. The reason Liverpool were done for it was Baconface told Captain Crutches to make up lies over the Christian Ziege affair.Hypocritical bastard.
Afternoon, It may just be media speculation or it may not. To state like it's fact that he never spoke to Liverpool is wrong as we don't know. A club can speak to a player at any time if the selling club give them permission to. A fee does not have to be agreed prior to this. The club can let the player talk to the club whilst they try and trash out the deal.
KE. If Connor Wickham had been given permission to speak to either Liverpool or Arsenal both of whom never made a formal bid, there would have never been a chance in hell of him joining Sunderland.Sunderland made a formal bid,Ipswich accepted it and he joined them.He would have joined Arsenal or Liverpool before Sunderland any day of the week.
Why didn't he wait for bids from pool, spurs and the gooners to come in? He signed within 24 hours of the bid being accepted. Seems to me he was pretty keen on Sunderland.
Maybe he was just not keen on Ipswich, and wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. Then again could you blame him, maybe he didn't want to end up with an extra finger on each hand.
