Agger is a top top bloke. You can just tell. Sad that he's not going to get a move to a CL club or more opportunities with us but this is what I would expect from him, he's extremely loyal and there's no 'But I'm a footballer' bullshit about him like there seems to be with every other player nowadays. God bless ya Agger.

Agreed, reminds me of Molby, honorary scouser.

Looked a cracker player but injury upon injury really hampered his progression.

Hmm, Agger could still do a job in a decent league but nice of him wanting to go back to his old club. At 29 though, still a good 3 or 4 years left in him.

£3m as well, ridiculously low price given what we could have got a few seasons ago!

Also see Song is apparently close to going to West Ham!!! Surely we should be able to match that, he'd do well for us I think, be it loan or perm.

I mean, yeah, Agger wants to go back to his old club and isn't too fussed about big money elsewhere nor interested in playing for a rival of ours...but it really screws us over at the same time. Not only do we take a massive loss on his real market value by selling him to a club who can't afford him, but we also need to settle his two remaining years contracted no doubt because Brondby won't be paying him anywhere near what we do, so he'd be making a massive wage deduction without a settlement. Normally remaining years on a contract is irrelevant if the player is sold and the buying club just has to make their offer attractive to them. Theirs clearly isn't...

Seems to screw us over a lot this deal...

  8. Xherdan Shaqiri back on Liverpool radar - transfer roundup

Liverpool could move to make their 10th signing of the summer transfer window, with Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri back on their radar according to reports.

The Reds have so far splashed in excess of £100 million on nine players, with former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli the latest to join their ranks for a fee of £16 million. Most had presumed that boss Brendan Rodgers' summer splurge was complete - however there could still be one more new face come deadline day.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool remain in the race for Shaqiri, who is yet to start a single game for Bayern this season. However they will have to move quick if they want to get their man, with reports in Spain claiming that Atletico Madrid are also taking a close look at the 22-year-old.

Liverpool may look upon Shaqiri as a versatile addition to their squad because he can play in various different positions which appeals to Rodgers as he looks to go about guiding his team through a Premier League campaign while negotiating European football once more.

Hard to say. We need that back up keeper badly, Jones isn't enough competition and gives me reason to think Mignolet could get complacent. But then we need someone who can be a force in midfield, a last line of defence there, and another speedy attacking player will only help push up the total goals scored and create problems for defences.

that is why i asked the question sort of lol,

everyone on here will probably give a dif answer.

donga will def go shaqiri and others would say better keeper or a decent enough dm player.

as you said one more face, i just thought it would be interesting to see what people would choose out of them, as they are probably all players we could do with, which one would you prioritise and why.

Being linked with last minute move for Shaq, suspect its paper talk , but would be nice.

Chelsea being linked with Remy, bet if they sign him he will score loads and not be bothered by the "medical condition". Whereas if we had signed him he would have scored a hat trick in his first game then his legs would have fallen off

    Hard to say <laugh> I'd make a top manager wouldn't I.

These are the questions I'm asking:

Do we trust Allen and Gerrard (and Hendo to a degree) enough to do the DM job between them and hold off on Song to go with the keeper or attacking option instead? Will our back line improve so much that they'll compensate for the obvious flaws in the Gerrard/Allen team?

Are we confident the attacking signings we've made are good enough to get the total goals we need?

Do we feel we already have enough attacking firepower and that a defensive option would be the best investment now (DM or GK)?

Is Brad Jones or whichever reserve keeper we buy realistically going to get much game time? If not then is a signing at GK going to push Mignolet all that much more in training?

Yeah Agger is a top bloke, plays football at a sentimentality rather than mercenary level, etc.
But 2 things from that report really stand out: we are going to settle the remaining 2 years of his contract; which is £120,000 p/w!!!

If Agger was really a top bloke, I'm sure he wouldn't mind taking a pay cut to join his boyhood team. Why are we responsible for settling his contract? ****ing Joke Hole all over again.
Who's idea was it to offer a perennially injured defender a 120k contract? He wouldn't have been on those terms when he joined, and the management would have known he is perma-injured, so why extend his contract at such ridiculous figures? For a defender, a broken defender!

Never mind that £3m, which is ridiculous. If this report is to be believed, BR must really want rid of him.
2G1A is right, we are getting screwed.

    /Rant over

We won't be paying his wages off ffs. No way in hell. The only reason we're probably going to accept only 3 mil is just to get him off the wage bill. Paying the rest of his wages doesn't really make sense as we may as well have just kept him

Its a settlement so that probably wont be the full 100% of his wages.

Yeah I'd imagine the reduced fee is part of a package where they agree to take on the wages leftover and maybe there's a bit of goodwill in there from us. No way we'd let a player with a 13million market value just go in a standard transfer for 3million.
