That match was a Worthington League Cup 1st Round 1st Leg tie and finished in a goalless draw. The Canaries won the 2nd Leg by two goals to one at Dean Court and progressed to the 2nd round. The Canaries go into this game on the back of four straight wins and must be confident of extending that winning run with a home victory over The Cherries. Bournemouth opened their season with a terrific result at Huddersfield Town where they thrashed the Terriers 4-0. They followed this up with a 2-0 victory at Exeter City in the Capitol One League Cup 1st Round and then beat Brentford in their next Skybet Championship fixture on home soil 1-0. Since then their league campaign has faltered somewhat, losing at home to Nottingham Forest and away at Blackburn Rovers. Their last outing saw them see off Northampton Town in the Capitol One League Cup 2nd Round. please log in to view this image Lewis Grabban heads home City's winner against local rivals Ipswich Town in their last league game please log in to view this image Bournemouth and Ex City defender Elliott Ward has been ruled out for at least two months after having knee surgery. Match History The two sides have met 52 times in league and cup competitions, 26 times both at Carrow Road and Dean Court. The Canaries have the upper hand with 21 victories to The Cherries 17, there have been 14 stalemates. Surprisingly City have won more games at Dean Court than they have at Carrow Road, 11 to be exact. Norwich's biggest margin of victory in this fixture was at Carrow Road in March 1933 in the old Third Division South when they beat Bournemouth (then know as Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic), by six goals to nil. Bournemouth enjoyed a 6-1 victory at the home of the Canaries on Boxing Day 1946 in the same competition. That of course was John Bond. It was at Dean Court that he cut his teeth as a football boss - winning the Cherries promotion to the Third Division and putting much needed energy into the club off the field. His move to Norwich City in November 1973 was an off-on affair, but eventually the Canaries got their target. Despite relegation back to the Second Division at the end of his first season in charge, City stuck with their new man and he stuck with City - and over the next six years or so he established the club in the top flight with an entertaining style courtesy of some of the best players ever seen at Carrow Road. please log in to view this image The late Great John Bond Hand in hand with Bond was of course Ken Brown, who followed him to Norfolk from Dean Court as assistant manager, and later took over the reins at Norwich. Some of the players Bond recruited to the City ranks would later return south to become managers of Bournemouth. John Benson, a reliable full back at Carrow Road, left City in 1975 to take charge of the Cherries in the role of player manager. Unfortunately the club were relegated back to the Fourth Division in this period and Benson resigned his post in 1978. Mel Machin was Bournemouth manager in cash strapped times between 1994 and 2000, before serving the club as Director of Football for a couple of years. In 2006 Kevin Bond followed in his father's footsteps and took over at Dean Court. Like Machin, he had been a notable defender at Carrow Road in his playing days, but his time in the dug out on the south coast corresponded with points deductions as Bournemouth went into administration, and he was sacked in September 2008. please log in to view this image Ken Brown celebrates on the Wembley turf in 1985 after City's Milk Cup Final Victory Benson, Machin and Bond jnr had all played for the Cherries before Bond snr had signed them for Norwich. Two of City's greatest ever players made the transition from Dean Court to Carrow Road, namely Ted ('SuperMac') MacDougall and Kevin Reeves. Ted endured himself to the Carrow Road faithful with his goalscoring prowess, he scored 23 goals for City in the 1975/76 season and was the First Division's top scorer that year. He once also scored an incredible NINE times in the same match for Bournemouth. Kevin was capped at full international level for England while with the Canaries. please log in to view this image Ted MacDougall celebrates one of his many goals for the Canaries Recent Form (All Competitions) Norwich City WWWW AFC Bournemouth WLLW LATEST TEAM NEWS Norwich defender Martin Olsson will be absent due to a family bereavement. Sorry this thread has been put up a bit later than usual guys but it was back to work this week after 10 days holiday. I'm fairly confident going into tomorrow's game, 4-0 City ! Edit:- I could have sworn that I've just seen 'Ilovedelia' at the foot of this page viewing this thread a poster we've missed !
I was getting worried that you forgot to do one last night but i also thought it was Friday yesterday. Great thread again KIO let's try for 5 wins on the bounce....
I had no idea we hadn't beaten them in the last nine home games going back to 1951. We are going to have to be super this season because this league is FULL of our bogey teams. I was nervous about this one, anyway. It's tricky and Bournemouth seem to have goals in them, especially away from home. From what I read from those of you who go to games (I can't watch most of them nowadays) we've looked pretty good in the last few games (especially at home), but consistency is the key to getting out of this league. COYY!
Great thread, and like Vietnamcanary watching games for me is limited now (though caught the derby last week ) but the feelgood factor is certainly back. Big game today and one we would want to win to stamp our credentials further on promotion potential. OTBC 2-1
Unchanged* starting XI: Ruddy; Whittaker, Martin (c), Turner, Garrido; Tettey, Johnson; Lafferty, Hoolahan, Redmond; Grabban. Bench: Rudd (GK), Cuellar, Jerome, Loza, E Bennett, Josh Murphy, O'Neil. Pleased O'Neil was fit to take a place on the bench, otherwise we'd have been very short of central midfield options. Opposition: Camp, Francis, Cook, Elphick, Daniels, Fraser, Arter, O'Kane, Gosling, Stanislas, Wilson. Forgot Lee Camp went there. Harry Arter is meant to be highly rated too, we were linked with him before. *Well, unchanged from about 5 minutes into the Ipswich game. Forgot about Bennett!
Not really, it's usually an hour before kick off. Becchio would probably be a better option from the bench than Loza, but perhaps if we're trying to offload him there's a concern about him picking up a knock?
Pearce is doing a fine job at Forest there starting 11 doesn't look great but they keep on winning ,looks like they are the early pace setters .
