The Spiders From Mars were from Hull. Mick Ronson was single-handedly responsible for Bowie's success. Bowie famously took all the credit for the tracks when in fact it was Mick that wrote and arranged the vast majority.

Mick, Trev and Woody weren't involved in Heroes.

If we were to adopt a Bowie song, it would have to be a Ziggy one.

Cheers Kirky, I remember that now, didn't he pass away not too long back, I think I remember people posting.
Not as big a link than Housemartins though, isn't one a Shef Wed supporter though?

Mick Ronson wasn't a filthy Blunts fan either.

Mick died in '93, it was Trevor who died recently.

The Spiders were far more of a Hull band than the Housemartins, in addition to being far more influential.

Heaton is a Blunt, rather than a Wendy.

Not solely directed at the above before I continue:

Far too many people around here find far too many things cringy. Too many snobs and too many inverse-snobs as well. It holds us back. I'm bored of it.

Yes it is, because The Housemartins made a massive hit out of it it living memoery, even if they didn't write it themselves.

Don't start a battle of wits if yer a bit low on ammo

Listen to how quickly the lyrics are spat out on that one. No chance of getting a decent rendition from a large crowd of people.

Not sure if it would really matter. Heroes would be a subtle nod towards them and it's a track that gets the goosebumps going. It could be a song we play in the build-up for atmosphere rather than one for the fans to sing along to.

If we want a song with some relevance to Hull, then a song with absolutely no relevance to Hull is not a great idea.

Have you ever wondered how that song would sound sung by a crowd, without music? There's too much instrumental space and too few words. It simply wouldn't work as a crowd song. You're being swayed by the fact that you're obviously a big Bowie fan. Move away from that. I'm no fan of The Housemartins but "Caravan" is all about vocals. It's perfect for a crowd anthem.
