Red Bull have effectively designed their car around the exhaust - I would expect their loss to be closer to a second (with other teams making a relative gain of 0.5)
Mclaren have good front downforce because they have a good front wing but poorer rear downforce, so does this mean they are going to be less effected because they have less downforce to lose, or more effected because it lowers their rear downforce levels too low? I think Ferrari are going to benefit the most which I for one think is good because in my opinion Alonso is the only driver capable of chasing Vettel down.
I agree, and I believe if Vettel win's the title, Alonso will finish second in the championship. Vettel and Alonso have been the most consistent and the best two drivers of 2011 imo.
I guess it all depends on how it unbalances the cars affected. McLaren found a huge amount of pace just before Melbourne from copying the RB design, it may put them back to pre-season testing pace unless they have come up with something different since then.
Too be honest I expect Red-Bulls advantage to be even greater from silverstone onwards and McLaren will fall further behind ferrari as well
I'm hoping it upsets the aero balance of the Red Bull because it's about time Vettel had to fight the car - it looks way too easy for him out in front. It's not unrealistic to believe this will happen either, as Newey designed the car around the EBD. Problem is Red Bull tested the impact of the ban in Valencia, so they might not struggle as much as anticipated. Maybe Vettel might not be so comfortable with significantly lower downforce levels, unless Newey comes up with another innovation.
It may be a simplistic view but its an off throttle ban. This will in effect mean that blown diffusers will still be doing their thing when your on the throttle. The amount of drag the cars have plus the grip means they're only off throttle under braking. Most corners will require throttle from the second the car turns in. So in a basic way (in my head) the cars will only be unstable under braking but will still have the downforce through the corners. Meaning the time loss will not be as huge as some may think. Off course I am almost entirely sure my simple world is quaint, but wrong
BLS. yes under throttle lift-off the gas must be max 10% - surely its under braking going into a corner. depending on aero and downforce, drivers re-apply throttle at some point on exit. Too early will allow slide etc.
If Mark Webber can carry on his improvement in dealing with the Pirelli tyres then I have got a suspicion that he could start equaling or beating Vettel. The reason I think this is because I remember reading something Mark Hughes wrote about Webber and Vettel's handling of the car with the on throttle only blown diffuser and why Webber was able to dominate Vettel during the middle of last season: The championship could still get interesting even if Red Bull keep their advantage.
To the person who was too cowardly to actually post on the thread; how/why is it a load of nonsense? Edit: I guess we will never know.
Someone neg repped me and said it was a load of nonsense. I do not care if I get neg repped I just wanted to know why they thought it was nonsense.
That's happened to me a few times before, but most of the time the person dishing out the negative rep has a power of 0. I thought your comment was a good one, worthy of positive rep imo (but I need to spread rep before giving you some - so I hope someone else does). The tyres are still the major problem for Mark Webber and he won't beat Vettel until he adapts his style to work better with the tyres, both in qualifying and the race.
Thanks Forza, yeah I think Webber really needs to get on top of the tyres, but in Valencia I think Red Bull said he had managed his tyres the best he had all season so he is getting there he is just taking longer than Vettel and other drivers to adapt. I believe you SilverArrow.
Does neg rep actually carry any de-reppage value? I got neg rep for this (also without comment or identification) but I'm sure it didn't affect my reputation levels. I agree with Forza - 'twas a good, thoughtful comment, Mifune.
I think your rep power determines how much rep you give out both negative and positive, so if someone neg repped you and they had a rep power of 0 then you rep level would stay the same, but they have a rep power of 1 then you rep level will go down by 1. I would rep you back up but I have to spread it around.
