It was great, Rainer. What I like about it is it takes two or three pints of cold ale to put the fire out! <laugh>

Dexter: To honest I never cared much for Spanish cuisine, especially if it's shell fish from the dirty old Med. Never been on the Atlantic coastline of Spain, but I'm sure the fish dishes there are great. As for calf's brains, bloody hell!.........<run like hell>

Very simple food generally Swanny unless you frequent elbulli or similar gaffs in Madrid,Bilbao,Seville etc...Like Italy it's very regional.

The Med produces a lot of prawns which I detest, about the only shellfish I dislike...and a lot of warm water fish obviously..I do like the Boquerones dipped in flour and shallow fried...Fish used to peasant food all over Spain but not anymore.

The Atlantic coast lands the same catch as the most North Europeans with Cod and Hake (Bacalao and Merluza) very popular but are bloody expensive. The fish market in Bilbao is large and unlike here almost everyone eats fish at least 5 times per week..every street has several fish mongers.Up North salted cod is very traditional.Monkfish is also popular.

Galicia is famous for my favourite shell fish, the hoof shaped percebes which are dangerously caught of the coast below the water level..hence very expensive an a Christmas treat for a lot only.

Beef is also popular oop North and is served rare in huge joints on a sizzling clay plater..Anyone wanting anything from medium/rare to well done will be out of luck!

Southern Spain, much poorer than the North is famous for Jamon Ibérico which is the best ham on the planet, derived from black pigs fed on acorns..much superior to parma ham and other Italian hams which are too salty.

Spanish food also consists of a lot of stews, one pot dishes that utilise anything that is available, like a Paella who few can bothered cooking since it is so much hassle.I've never had it in anybody's house!

There are also much less sauces used than other food cultures.

A very simplistic resume but theres something for everyone!

    I love it.

Every day's a school day I see! Spain's definitely my favourite country for food.

I'd better add a selection - Divine call in the next at Wolverhampton looks interesting.

Small EW on Forward March 40/1 in the 8:30 at Wolverhampton. Trainer has a good record at the track and has a decent jockey doing the steering

Wow, Dexter, many thanks, will definitely have to reconsider. Must try to make a trip to the north/northwest coast and sample some of the food there. Wasn't too enamoured with the food in Taragona when I was there, but that's obviously unfair on the rest of Spain. My colleagues and I did find a great little steak place down in San Carlos de la Ràpita, where the owner would open-up a little early for us in the evening; the locals used to eat so late at night! As you can guess I really love spicy food and so Asian cuisine is top of my list, with the exception of Japanese food, I'm no great lover of raw fish and sushi stuff! Loads of people love it though. Also very fond of Louisiana food, their shrimp gumbo and catfish dishes are out of this world.

Thanks again for your excellent resume, certainly was not simplistic!

No harm done really, not often thread goes to a full cuisine variation? Quite interesting, I thought. Anyway, top poster Sir Barney Chuckles started it off with his salmon-for-lunch forecast...............and who can argue with him?

Been off line all day and just logged in from my sister's in Dorset. Interesting thread today. I just thought I'd mention that I once had half a brain.
