Queens Park Rangers Vs Sunderland Official Sunderland Not606 Match Thread please log in to view this image Loftus Road please log in to view this image Match Apointments Referee: Robert Madley Assistants: S Child & M Wilkes Fourth Official: A Taylor QPR will be looking to get their first points of the season when they welcome unbeaten Sunderland to Loftus Road on Saturday. After a disappointing start on their return to the Premier League, it is vitally important that QPR get some points on the board, even at this early stage of the season. Home form is often key to newly-promoted clubs' chances of remaining in the top flight, and avoiding a similar result to the opening day defeat by Hull will be on boss Harry Redknapp’s agenda. A new 3-5-2 formation has failed to bear fruit so far, but Redknapp and new coach Glenn Hoddle are set to stick with the system, despite its initial failings. Goals have been few and far between. QPR have yet to score a league goal this season and have scored just once in their last eight Premier League games overall. Sunderland travel south unbeaten after impressive performances against West Brom and Manchester United, and following their convincing Capital One Cup win at Birmingham in midweek, the signs are that Gus Poyet’s men are set for an improved season. Poyet is looking to bolster his squad yet further before the transfer deadline passes, but new arrival Jack Rodwell’s early impact must be pleasing to the Uruguayan boss. Wes Brown scored the winning goal in the 89th minute the last time Sunderland won a league game at QPR back in December 2011. QPR Team News QPR will be without Alejandro Faurlin for the visit of Sunderland after the midfielder suffered a serious knee injury for the third time in three years. Redknapp could yet be without Faurlin for the remainder of the season after he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury - whilst loan signing Eduardo Vargas will be unavailable as he is still awaiting a work permit. Charlie Austin (hamstring) missed the 4-0 loss at Tottenham last weekend but could be involved on Saturday as Redknapp is likely to recall a number of players who sat out the Capital One Cup defeat by Burton. Sunderland Team News Poyet looks likely to have a fully fit squad to choose from for the trip to the newly-promoted QPR. Emanuele Giaccherini made his return to the side in Sunderland's win at Birmingham in midweek, and is in the running for a starting spot. As is Billy Jones Vito Mannone will have to sweat it out as to whether or not he will be given the goalkeeper's jersey back after being rested in the cup win. Key Men QPR – Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker QPR may also be in desperate need of some goals, having scored no goals in the league so far, but they need to tighten it up at the back if they have any hopes of avoiding the drop in their first season back in the Premier League. Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker may be unfamiliar with the 3 man defence system favoured by Harry Redknapp, but Ferdinand is experienced enough to lead the back line, and he will have to keep his composure along with former Cardiff man Caulker for the Rangers to stand a chance of keeping a clean sheet. Sunderland – Connor Wickham The Black Cats will need the 21-year old Englishman to retain the prolific form he displayed at the end of last season and get back to goalscoring ways against QPR on Saturday. Gus Poyet’s side only scored 41 goals last season, but will have to up their game if they want to comfortably avoid relegation this time around. They also struggled against sides in their region of the table last year – on their way to victories over Manchester United and Chelsea – so it is vital they try to avoid a similar situation this time around, and the key to that will be the goalscoring of their frontmen, especially if their move for Fabio Borini from Liverpool falls through before deadline day. Possible line up please log in to view this image Posters Prediction Today we have some predictions from our very own Poyet's Eleven and chipping in with an opposition view we have QPR's South Africa Road Block F. A big thank you to both lads for bringing a personal touch for this weeks match thread. Stats & Facts Harry Redknapp has won just two of his 14 Premier League home games as Rangers boss (D5 L7). Loic Remy has made a league-high 18 touches in the opposition box this season, one more than Swansea have in total. Harry Redknapp won four of 22 Premier League games in his ill-fated spell at Southampton; so far he has won four of 27 in the top-flight with QPR. Sunderland have won 4 of their last five league matches with QPR, stretching back to 2005, excluding a 3-1 loss in their previous encounter. ----------------Mannone------------------ Vergini----Oshea------Brown---------PVA ----------------Cattermole---------------- Buckley----Rodwell----Larsson----Johnson -----------------Wickham------------------ That's how id go. Jozy, Gomez and Giaccherini attacking options from bench.
The more players we bring in and the more player who get fit, it's getting harder and harder to predict the line up. We are getting stronger squad wise. My possible prediction isn't what I would choose personally just trying to predict what Poyet may do.
Cracking thread Bri as per. Excellent idea to give genuine supporters a chance for a prediction say. Obviously you know our lot but how do you avoid oppo wums & propaganda? Brings it `closer to home` imo. Do any of the other boards do this? If not it`s a bloody good first.
Me too. I just started a thread on the QPR board asking politely last night, came on today to find South Africa Road Block F had kindly left a prediction. For Man U I used Tel so that was sound. But If I ever have the situation where only wums have volunteered I'll just go to one of the independent forums for help. Don't think anyone else is doing this, not on this site anyway. Cheers Pops.
A very impressive thread mate. We've lost one first teamer to an injury for the season, and harry seems to be selling two others - Simpson and Traore - who knows if Remy will go too. The players we've signed are either awating international clearance or not match fit. Harry also missed a perfect chance to bed in 3-5-2 at Burton on Wednesday - playing 442 with fringe players. I'm predicting it taking a while yet for us to get up-to-speed - if we do at all. I'm predicting 0-2 to Sunderland, both headed goals from set pieces.
Thanks fella, and welcome. I've gone 2-1 to Sunderland provided Gus gets the front three right. He's been playing Wickham at inside left due to injuries and Fletcher central, only Wickham hasn't looked comfortable and Fletcher doesn't look interested. Giaccherini is now fit and hopefully gets the inside left spot with Wickham going Central, Johnson is back from illness and Buckley is looking sharp too so there's no need to put Wickham out wide any more. If he does go with Wickham at inside left and Fletcher central I can see us struggling for goals and wouldn't be predicting a win. Will be interesting to see our front three up against your back three, focal point of the match for me.
Well done Funk - great thread! Like the local predictions bit as well. Nice touch - and better than reading about us losing week-in week-out from Lawros and Merson! More informed, for a start!
Cracking Match thread Bri, as usual, have one on me I'm going 2-2 here, don't know why, it's just a water thing. There are no easy matches in the Prem, especially away from home and I do think QPR will be up for this one..
Hello and welcome He`s a good lad our Funky. He`s a bugger for the stats aswell. Give him a bunch of facts and figures and I`m sure he gets a semi just reading them. (Arl reet Bri ) We know only too well what it`s like to get off to a bad start. It`s a sod playing catchy up. We seem to be doing a little better this time but we have to start playing when the ref blows the whistle for the start of the first half instead of waiting till he blows for the start of the second.
This would be my team, looks well balanced and these players are all in good form. I would predict 1-3 to us with this or similar line up.
Just home from a two day trip to Pity Me via Whitby and York so catching up ...... first port of call as always the Bri match thread I'm too knackered to get into formations, predictions & selections but have to ask the QPR lads something. I went to the away match last time and couldn't get a ticket for the Sunderland section so went in with QPR. I was witness to one of the most embarrassing sights I've ever witnessed in a football ground! There was a QPR supporter, in a sombrero, with 'Grandad' printed on the back of his replica top. His 'hilarious antics' were ****ing cringeworthy on a scale only Jimmy Saville could come close to matching. Who the **** is he?
i ****ing love it like, its the bit i look forward too most, he plucks them out of nowhere, its brilliance bearing in mind our byram is : please log in to view this image
I think it will be the same team that played against Man Utd with Johnson coming in for Buckley on the right.
Hi guys, Good write up of a thread so well done all involved. Always good games between us and i remember being at the Stadium of light on that opening day when we played you. Michael gray (absolute class) got badly injured if i remember rightly and i think you won. Had a great time up thier topped off by a trip to Tall Trees in yarm...good night. As for the game, oi honestly dont even know what players we will have left to put up against you. i dont expect much from us today and would rip your arm off for a point...especially seeing the good start you have got off too. We're slow out of the blocks and i dont think we are ready for you (or anybody) yet. formation is all over the place, players in and out and not fit and hoddle has only just arrived. if we get a point going into the international break i'll be over the moon, otherwise im going 2 - Nil to Sunderland....Unless our f-wit of a coach decides to put men on the posts at corners Good luck for the season lads...except when you meet us of course Our match day thread should be up soon so please feel free to pop over and have a read ,ok>
Do the QPR lads think Redknapp will be sacked if Sunderland win? Word round the camp fire is that Sherwood was tipped off before he turned Palace down and 'offered' the job. I can't abide Sherwood tbh.
