it was also a different game so you have to assess ach player and say.. if he were around today.... this is why clemence, neal, hanson, rush, dalglish all work. if they had the trianing and equipment they'd be world calss still... and the same can be said of best as well.
In other words you are fat and never leave the centre circle? Tough call, but yes. Keane once said his role in the Utd midfield was to win the ball and get it to Scholes or the wings. Just what you need in this formation imo, whereas whilst Robson would get more goals I don't think he'd cover the defence and make use of the rest of the attacking talent as well. And he spend half his time trying to convince Scholes and Sir Bobby to go on the piss with him...
Don't like this thread it's depressing cos I'm beginning to realise how much older i am than most of the posters !! i sometimes think that due to being either boring (Charlton) or a bit weird (Keegan) that some true greats are not given the repect they deserve. Bobby Charlton would be worth £100m in tadays market as he could be a very good def CM or an absolute goal scoring machine still from CM. for my all time Liverpool team i'm tempted to just go for the 79-77 team who apart from some ridiculous lucky deflection by J greenhoff we would have got the treble - Well we would if we had got another but here you go Clemence Neal , Hansen , Hughes , Kennedy Gerrard Souness Masch Barnes Dalgish Rush though i desperately wanted to put case and McDermott in there
