Haven`t seen much of him in either position to be honest (how much have you seen him?) but in most things i have read about him his job description has been centre back (can play left back).
All will be revealed tomorrow...maybe. He'll probably be left centre back (or centre left back as Rodgers might call it) just to keep the debate going.
No logical investment. Your transfer policy seems to be 'the most famous player available' instead of 'where do we need to improve'. You already had a title winning front three before signing Di Maria. Where is your defensive leader? Your midfield bossman? United other massive mistake was bringing in all of Schols, Giggs and Neville as coaches at the same time instead of any one with real long term coaching experience.
Squad numbers, Shaw 3 (left back), Rojo 5 (centre back). Not really scientific but a half decent indicator (unless we are going to play one of them as a false 11)
You have a point here, but it wasn`t who we brought in, it was who we let go from the coaching staff.
Hodgson also thinks Shaw is unfit http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28979081 #fourthmostexpensivedefenderever
I'm not sure you'll get him, and if you dont, and fail to sign some one else you could have real trouble. Alex Song is available, fairly low cost and available. He could improve you well and play with Vidal.
When we lost Paco Ayyesteran (spelling not even close?) and replaced him with Sammy Lee it hit our team hard. When Steve Clarke then replaced Sammy Lee we improved nicely. The coaching team means as much as the manager.
Going back to the OP - Rodgers tried to bring in the passing game, which he did. Unfortunately, it wasn't successful as we couldn't score goals and attack well enough. I can't remember but didn't we have Borini as the attacker for a few games? Credit to Rodgers for changing it up but the catalyst for the dramatic were the signings of Coutinho and Sturridge - who provided pace, creativity and created far more chances. These two signings are the best signings this club has made in almost 2 decades in terms of value and impact, and could prove to be a pivotal moment in our return to the top.
With Rodgers it was all messy until January, when we signed Sturridge and Coutinho. Since we signed Sturridge and Coutinho things have been real good. Those two signings have been the making of Rodgers so far. None of our signings last summer actually made a significant improvement to our team (Mignolet was about equal to Reina and Sakho missed a lot of games, the rest didnt seem to do much). So last season was still build from Coutinho and Sturridge. Never before have I seen two players make such a big difference.
borini played LW, downing played RW... look why bother.... this is all about uir trying to jusitfy the disasterous LVG. he can't see that if justifying LVG means that therefore rodgers is elevated to genius stats and now on a par as a result <whsitle> well... well one uir... rodgers has actually won nothing and LVG has won his a logn time ago relatively but LVG must be respected as the elder statesman he is (and pushed to DoF where he can make the root and branch changes required)
